1.  Main Purpose and Responsibilities

Responsible for various duties associated with assisting Senior Testers & TIC’s (Testers in Charge) in the testing and commissioning of signalling equipment.

2.  Principle duties

Undertake intrusive trackside, interlocking and control centre verification and functional testing duties within own competence including, (but not limited to):

·  Assist test team leaders to undertake trackside, interlocking and control centre testing duties.

·  Application of test equipment, measuring devices and test straps, reporting of status of equipment associated with preparatory testing and commissioning of altered or new signalling equipment and systems.

·  Conduct verification testing in compliance with relevant technical professional and group standards.

·  Undertake testing activities which are independent of the design

·  Supporting the tester in charge in the progression of testing as a team member including:

o  Ensuring testing documentation is completed in accordance with the Testing & Commissioning plan and associated implementation strategy.

o  Communicating technical information to other team members, testing staff and installation & other staff.

·  Contribute to the improvements in testing procedures and working methods.

·  Maintain IRSE Logbook and portfolio for evidence and undergo assessments in accordance with Company and industry Competence Assurance Scheme.

·  Liaise with other departments and functions.

·  Undertake other duties when requested within areas of competence.

·  Comply with general administrative duties as contained and briefed in OSL’s employee handbook.

3.  HSQE Responsibilities

This post is Safety Critical.

The post holder is responsible for ongoing compliance with:

·  Current HSQE Legislation

·  Railway Group Standards and Client Company Standards

·  OSL Integrated Management System

·  Industry Safety regulations

·  Undertake duties as described in individual Testing Plans, Project Strategies or Work Package

Plans.

·  Ensure laid down safety procedures are carried out prior to, during and after undertaking work.

·  Recognise and apply Refusal to Work (Work Safe) procedure if required.

4.  Qualifications and Experience

Essential

A solid understanding and awareness of:

·  Basic Electrical & Electronic Theory

·  Signalling equipment & systems

·  Signalling standards techniques & processes including those applicable to:

o  Signalling maintenance, signal maintenance testing (SMTH) & fault finding

o  Signalling installation

o  Signalling design

·  Trained and competent in at least four of the following:

§  Basic relay interlocking principles

§  Track circuits (AC/DC) TI 21

§  Signals (MAS) LED’s

§  Train Detection AWS & TPWS

§  SSI or other process band interlockings

§  Design Processes

·  Recognised practical training program or courses

·  Electricity at work (level 1 and 2)

·  Personal track safety

·  Emergency first Aid

·  Manual Handling

·  Fire safety awareness

·  Signal works testing module 5, 3C, 3BL & 4

·  Hold IRSE licence category 1.3.170

·  Effective safety communicator

Desirable

·  Basic signalling technology or equivalent training programme

·  Route relay interlocking

·  Develop and document plans for SSOW for rail activities on or near the line

·  Develop & maintain effective communications arrangements with the responsible manager for railway interface planning

·  Attendance at pre-works possession meetings

·  Attend familiarisation meetings & site visits are undertaken to ensure the planning arrangements for the site correlate with plans produced

·  Work in accordance with rule book handbooks 12,20 & 21

·  COSS ( Controller of site safety)

·  PDSW Task team leader

·  SMTH qualified

·  SSI interlockings, Geographicals,

·  Remote communication / transmission systems
