JUNIOR FESTIVAL 2013

CONDITIONS OF ENTRY

  1. Garden City Country Music Association its committee, beneficiaries and or sponsors will not be held responsible for any loss, damage or injury to any person or personal items throughout this event.
  1. ALL Material performed must be country as deemed by judges, strict penalties will be given if a song is performed that cannot be deemed the same. It is permitted to perform a song other than country in “Modern Popular”.
  1. Contestants will be responsible for arranging their own musical backing for their sections of the event. There will be a plenty of musicians available, however while we are certain all care is taken neither the band nor the committee will take responsibility if mistakes are made during the backing process. All backing is to be live, no recorded or synthesized music will be allowed. (Except in Modern Popular).
  1. The festival committee will arrange sound equipment & PA systems and will be the only equipment used on stage. Keyboard drumming patterns are not permitted. You are however, required to supply your own musical instruments.
  1. Entry to the festival is restricted to amateur & semi professional artists only (a professional is a person who earns the major part of their income from the music industry). Festival committee reserves the right to refuse entry to this competition to any persons to whom these conditions apply.
  1. Entry fees for each section MUST accompany the entry form. Entries close 14th June 2013.Late entries may be accepted only with the approval of the festival officials. Entries may be limited in some sections due to time constraints. Entry fees are non-refundable.
  1. AGES: JUVENILE- 12 years and under JUNIOR- 17 Years and under. As at 22June 2013,all sections are for Juniors or Juveniles only, unless otherwise specified.
  1. Contestants may appear only once per section. (Including group/duet). Individuals may appear in one age group only (e.g. Juvenile is Juvenile only etc). The festival committee reserves the right to cancel or incorporate 2 or more sections if there are insufficient numbers. Should numbers not be sufficient, organizers reserve the right to reduce festival to 1 day.
  1. Bush Ballads: There are no limitations in this festival to do with backing arrangements. Contestants must present a purely Australian Bush Ballad. (A song about the Australian bush and/or its people)
  1. Traditional: This section is limited to a guitar that is not plugged through the PA (a microphone will be used to enhance sound on guitar) and song must be a traditional country sound and style. The term “Traditional is not related to age, rather it is related to the ‘traditional country style’
  1. Backing vocals and Harmonies in Individual acts are not permitted. These are accepted for modern popular section only, backing music/ tapes are also permitted for modern popular. Harmonies are highly recommended in group and duet section.
  1. Novice is open to contestants who have never won an award in an official event at a Champion of Champions affiliated festival.
  1. CHORD CHARTS – MUST be produced, no chord chart you will not be permitted to perform (unless self-accompanied), Chord charts must be legible, in the correct key and NOT printed directly from the internet…..penalties may apply. A minimum of 3 copies is required for each performance, should you wish to use the house band. Professional chord charts can be arranged, please contact festival coordinator well in advance of event for more info (fees apply)
  1. Modern Popular, It is preferred that Country Music is NOT performed in this section, pre recorded backing is permitted, please supply Tape/CD etc to festival directors on morning of your performance..
  1. Own Composition MUST be a song written by the contestant named in the official program. THREE (3) copies of the words of this song MUST be submitted to the judges for this section. Vocal ability will NOT be judged in this section. Section will be judged on Melody, Lyrics, Rhyme and Structure. Therefore, the writer of the song does not necessarily have to be the performer – however section 7 applies and the writer will receive the award!
  1. Decisions made by the Festival Judges are considered final and are not subject to appeal in any way.
  1. Overall performer will be found via a finals concert. You are required to perform two (2) songs in the finals. Finalists will be found from the official vocal sections only – Vocal, Gospel, Bush Ballad, Country Rock and Own Composition, Traditional.
  1. Whilst every effort is made to adhere to the program, the festival committee will accept no responsibility for inconvenience caused by program alterations arising from unforeseen circumstances.
  1. Judges and/or sound technician’s are NOT to be approached by a contestant or anybody associated with the contestant while judging is in process or while sound tech is working… If you have a problem, please see Festival Directors.
  1. Order of appearance in official program is to be strictly adhered to; changes to order will only be made in extreme circumstances at the Festival Director’s discretion.
