Supervision / Students must be accompanied by teachers/carers who are responsible for students’ behavior onsite.A ratio of 1:10 is recommended for school groups.
Late arrival /
Please notify Trainworks on 4681 8001 on the day if your group will be late. We cannot guarantee the availability of guides if your group arrives earlier or later than the confirmed arrival time.
Coach parking /
Coaches are able to stop at front entrance for drop off and pick up. However, we ask that waiting coaches use the coach bay on Barbour Road.
Cloaking /
As there is limited storage space available, we ask that students do not bring school bags to Trainworks. Tubs will be provided to securely store lunches.
Accessibility / Disability parking is available in the Trainworks car park.
Wheelchair accessible toilets are available in the Main Exhibition Building and in the Great Train Hall.
There is a hearing aid loop in the theatrette.
Single level access available to all areas.
Ramp access to the Great Train Hall platform and the Roundhouse viewing area.
Timing / The guided program runs for approx. 90 mins and we recommend you plan extra time for additional needs.We recommend allowing 90 minutes a minimum for self-guided tours.
Morning tea & lunch breaks / All-weather lunch areas are available and there is a café on site.
Tubs will be provided to store lunches.
There is a 7m high climbing frame in the playground at Trainworks and use of the playground area will be at the discretion of school staff. An alternative grassed area away from the playground is available.
Making the most of your visit /
Research suggests that learning in museums is maximised if students are prepared for their visit with an overview of the program and the museum layout, are familiar with the key concepts, and the visit is integrated into units of work being studied at school.
