A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
TO COMMEND MRS. ELSIE BENNETT WILSON FOR HER THIRTY-SEVEN YEARS OF LOYAL AND DISTINGUISHED SERVICE TO CLEMSON UNIVERSITY ON THE OCCASION OF HER RETIREMENT.
Whereas, the members of the General Assembly have learned with regret that Mrs. Elsie Bennett Wilson will be retiring this year as the Executive Assistant to the President of Clemson University after thirty-seven years of loyal and distinguished service to Clemson; and
Whereas, in her capacity as Executive Assistant to the President, Mrs. Wilson has served seven presidents of Clemson University and one acting president beginning with President R. C. Edwards and continuing up to current President James F. Barker; and
Whereas, she is a part of a wonderful Clemson family. Her father, Charlie Bennett, was a Clemson graduate, and worked for Clemson from the early 1920’s and until his death in the early 1960’s. Her husband, Betts Wilson, worked for Clemson for over forty-five years. Her daughter and son-in-law, Carole W. and Ronald W. Oakley, and granddaughter, Heather N. Oakley, graduated from Clemson, and her grandson, R. Sean Oakley, is presently attending Clemson University. She has another grandson, Zach, who is fifteen, and it is very possible that he will attend Clemson as well and continue the Clemson legacy; and
Whereas, this truly lovely lady has dedicated her life to Clemson University and to education in South Carolina. She has provided a point of continuity in an ever changing but much improved Clemson and will be deeply missed by all those who have come to know and love her as an integral part of this fine institution; and
Whereas, the members of the General Assembly, by this resolution, would like to publicly recognize and thank her for the many contributions to and work with Clemson University upon the occasion of her retirement. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:
That the members of the General Assembly hereby commend Mrs. Elsie Bennett Wilson for her thirty-seven years of loyal and distinguished service to Clemson University on the occasion of her retirement.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Mrs. Wilson.
