The Moredun Group consists of three companies, Moredun Research, Moredun Scientific and Pentlands Science Park.

Moredun Research is internationally recognised for its work on infectious diseases of sheep and other ruminants. Its remit is to conduct distinguished scientific research on infectious diseases of livestock and of comparative relevance to man.

The aims of the Group are:

  • To carry out innovative basic and strategic multi-disciplinary research on diseases which undermine biological efficiency, impair animal welfare or threaten public health.
  • To develop strategies for improved control and prevention of disease, thereby furthering animal and human wellbeing and encouraging sustainable agriculture.
  • To contribute new knowledge to biological science, comparative medicine, environmental protection and public health.
  • To maintain specialist diagnostic and disease surveillance services to facilitate epidemiological investigations, and early awareness of emerging problems.

Moredun Scientificthe commercial arm of the Moredun Group, offers contract research, collaborative research and technology transfer services to the veterinary, pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries.

Moredun Scientific are involved in the conduct of safety and efficacy studies evaluating a range of veterinary and human health products. The company has two divisions, Animal Health and Bisoafety.

Pentlands Science Park, is the bioscience centre developed by the Moredun Foundation and is home to Moredun Research and Moredun Scientific.The park extends to 22 acres and provides around 160,000 square feet of high quality offices and laboratories for the Moredun Group and the other site tenants.

Pentlands Science Park is the service company which runs and administers all the parks property, facilities and management services in such areas as security, engineering, IT, catering and conferencing.

ABOUT OUR TERMS & CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

Salary

The salary for this post isbetween£20,700-£32,400. Placement on the scale is dependent on qualifications and experience.

Pension

On appointment, you are eligible to join the Group Personal Pension Scheme.

  • Our contribution is three times the employee contribution up to 15%.
  • You do not have to contribute if you do not wish to but, if you do, the minimum contribution is 3% of your salary.

Hours of work

Full-time employees work 37 hours per week. Standard working hours Monday to Thursday 8:30 -17:30 and Friday 8:30-16:00, with a one hour unpaid lunch.

A flexi-time system is in operation for the majority of positions within the organisation.

Annual Leave

On appointment the annual leave entitlement is 6 weeks per annum.

Public Holidays & Privilege Day

The public holiday entitlement is 7 days per annum pro rata, 5 days taken over Christmas and New Year when the Group is closed with the exception of on-call staff, the remaining 2 days will be allocated at Easter or in negotiation with your line manager, in accordance with the requirement of the business.

A privilege day, is allocated the last day of the Year and is granted when annual leave is taken the previous day.

Retirement

The Moredun Group recognises that employees are no longer required to retire at a specific date.

Technical Officer (In-vivo Biosafety)

The Moredun Group are seeking an enthusiastic and conscientious individual to join a small team working within Moredun Scientific.

You will join a team involved in the conduct of safety and efficacy studies evaluating a range of veterinary and human health products. The Biosafety In-vivo Division is involved in testing for adventitious agents and require fast turnaround testing to guarantee the timely release of medicinal products.

You will have knowledge of and ability to comply with, GMP and GLP regulations, working within standard operating procedures, risk assessments and study plans.

You will participate in weekend rota, for which additional payment is made.

Main purpose of job: / Responsible for routine animal husbandry and welfare to support In-vivo Biosafety group. Assist in initiating in-vivo studies. Knowledge of and ability to comply with the GLP/GMP regulations, SOPs and Study Plans/Protocols. Initiate and assist in In-vivo testing to GLP/GMP regulatory requirements.
Main duties of postholder: / Inoculation of eggs and small animals for in-vivo adventitious agents and
routine animal husbandry as required
Recording data to GLP/GMP compliance levels
Maintenance of equipment and facilities to GLP/GMP compliance levels
Preparing/maintaining stocks of laboratory consumables and reagents
Incoming goods management, Test Article receipt and general
administrative support
Provide training to other MSL personnel when required
Encourage and show flexibility in workplace
