Pre-K to 12 teachers will gain the understanding and skills necessary to utilize digital media in order to enhance instruction and engage students. Using a wide variety of digital media applications, teachers will access and create digital media.

Intended Audience or Participant list: Pre-K to 12 teachers

Intended Learning Outcomes:

§  Acquire the skills to access and use digital media applications effectively for teaching and learning

§  Learn to how to effectively use features of Discovery Streaming (aka United Streaming)

§  Learn to how to design instructional materials which include digital media content (ie video, audio and/or multimedia presentations)

§  Learn how to use a wide variety of applications to support digital instructional material including: PowerPoint Presentations, PhotoStory, Windows Movie Maker, Google Earth tours, Concept Mapping applications.

§  Learn how to deliver instructional material outside the classroom walls using Learning Point.

Professional Growth Activities – Acquisition of New Learning

As evidence of implementation, each participant is required to maintain a portfolio of documentation regarding completion of her/his new learning, impact on student learning and reflection activities. This portfolio will be reviewed by the facilitator at the end of the TLC. Examples of documentation: time logs, meeting notes, discussion group notes, lesson plans, student work samples, journals, etc.

Teachers will acknowledge and address copyright issues as well as Fair Use guidelines.

o  Identify and save video content in order to embed in a multimedia tool

o  Selecting a multimedia tool, teacher creates a standards based lesson using DS content with a rubric as an assessment tool and posts to Learningpoint for Peer Review.

From August to June:

§  Teachers will explore, research, analyze, and present digital media content using Discovery Streaming and additional applications to support and engage student Learning.

§  They will develop one or more problem-based learning projects and guide students through the learning process.

§  The facilitators will be available for trouble-shooting and support. Special “as-needed” trainings will also be offered.

§  Teachers will keep journals on a blog to record their classroom reflections and utilize discussion boards with their student to capture and reflect on learning.
