Course Objectives:

A main goal of this course is to instill advanced thinking skills, knowledge, and critical reasoning abilities. To accomplish this I will do my best to provide experiences using hands on activities and collaboration.

Grading Scale and Policy:

This course grade will be based upon demonstrated mastery of the many concepts that are covered in this course. Mastery is developed during formative assessments (lessons, activities, practice, and quizzes) and then later that mastery is demonstrated in the summative assessments (test, projects). The weighting of these portions of the course are as follows:

Formative Assessments(Practice, Daily Work, Exit Tickets, etc)

and Quizzes 40%

Summative Assessments (Tests)60%

●All assignments must have work shown as well as the answer to receive full credit.

●Each student must do their own work. Any form of plagiarism or supplying answers to others will result in disciplinary action and possible zero and/or retest.

Expected Behavior:

I have the right to teach, and the students have the right to learn. Anything that interferes with the teaching and learning environment will not be tolerated. Respect of authority, property and peers is expected of all students. No profanity will be allowed at any time. If an issue of disrespect or disruption consistently occurs after I have conferenced with the student and contacted the parent, an office referral will be written.

Note: There may be occasions when an occurrence requires immediate office referral. This will be the decision of the teacher or substitute in the room.

Supplies Needed (EVERYDAY):

●PENCILS w/ erasers – we do a lot of erasing.

●Loose leaf notebook paper & graph paper

●3 – ring binder

●Simple Pocket Folder

Electronic Devices Policy:

MISD policy, the Student Handbook, and the Code of Conduct allow students to carry cellular phones or other electronic communication devices during the school day, but they must be silenced and out of sight during class. At the beginning of class each day, students will be asked to put their phone/electronic device in an assigned space away from their person. The phone/electronic device must stay there until class is dismissed. If a student decides not to place their phone/electronic device in the assigned space, their phone must be put in their backpack/purse, silenced, until the class is dismissed. Ifa student has an electronic device out during class, it will be collected and held until the end of class. The third time the electronic device is collected the result will be a referral to the student’s AP.

NOTE: Failure to hand over the device will be grounds for an immediate referral for insubordination and student will no longer have access to any of the 3 remaining collections.

Absences/Late Work:

When you miss a class, it is my expectation that you:

a.)utilize the link that is attached to the day(s) you missed on the nine-week calendar on my website to inform yourself of that day’s topic, and

b.)make use of any of the various forms of technology (available to you with the textbook) to learn the topic and complete the assignment within the same time requirements as the rest of the course.

LATE WORK GRADING POLICY
Turned in by the
Due Date (or extended date based on absence policy) / Turned in BEFORE the Summative Assessment / Assignments WILL NOT be scored if turned in after the 3 week progress report date.
100% of Grade
Earned / 10% deduction for each day late.
(Maximum deduction of 50%)

●If the missing assignment has already been graded and/or returned to the class, an alternate assignment may be given for the student to complete.

●If a student is not absent, but is missing an assignment, they may be “invited” to before school, lunch or after school tutoring.

●When you miss a quiz or an exam, you are responsible for making arrangements for making-up the assessment within the required timeframe. (Note: Required timeframe = Number of days absent +1)

●If a student desires to retake a summative assessment (test), he/she must complete all missing assignments BEFORE the retest.

●ONE summative test may be retaken each 9 weeks for 80% of the retest score.

Retest Policy:

Students may retest ONE summative assessment/assignment within ONE week from the date the grade is posted or test returned for a grade that reflects the level of mastery of the content assessed (full credit) each nine weeks. The requirements of retesting are as follows:

- Attending a tutorialsession is mandatory for re-teaching prior to the reassessment. – New grade can be calculated by either

a. ) taking 80% of the retest score, or

b. ) taking the average of the two assessment scores

c. ) keep the original score (if it is higher than the re-test)

*Projects that are given three or more weeks to complete are not included in the retest policy but are subject to teacher discretion.
