“Teaching, Fellowship, Sharing, Breaking of Bread, Prayer, Praise, and Giving”

How do you think First Meridian Heights Presbyterian Church should be living out its faith? That is the question for this week. Actually it a primary question for our interim time together. I suspect there are as many answers to this question as there are people in the congregation.

The book of Acts in the second chapter beginning with the 42nd verse gives us a picture of the life of the first century church. They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching, fellowship, shared meals, prayers, unity, breaking bread together, praising God, and demonstrating God’s goodness to everyone.

In daily tasks, reading the bible, caring for others, eating together, praising God, and praying we are drawn closer to God and each other. In the day to day interactions with God and other people we have the opportunity to live out our faith. Where are our growing points with God, each other and our community? Do we study seeking to understand what God is calling us to do? Do we really know the people in our church? Do we pray? Do we talk about our faith and where God has touched our lives? How do we live out our faith in the larger community? Do we stand up in the face of injustice and suffering?

It is easy to think that we are too old or young; do not have enough time or resources to make a difference. When we get caught up in thinking the glass is half full we forget that everyone’s talent, time and money can come together to change the world. The first century church changed the world by taking what they had and bringing it together and the Lord added daily to their community. When we ask ourselves what is the one thing I can teach or give that God has blessed me with our lives are changed and the world is turned upside down.

The mission of First Meridian Heights is: To serve, love and grow in the ever-widening circle of Christ’s grace. How do we let the world know and experience God’s love and grace through our worship, hospitality, mission, spiritual growth, and giving?

Think about it – Pray about it – Live it
