St Francis Xavier’s College was founded in Liverpool in 1842 by the Jesuit Order in connection with Stonyhurst College, Lancashire. It remained in its central location until 1961 when it was re-located on a site covering twenty four acres at High Lee, Woolton. It is an 11-18 boys’ comprehensive school which also admits girls into the Sixth Form. It serves the Catholic community of South Liverpool.

St Francis Xavier’s College is a group 7 school with 1127 pupils on the roll and a teaching staff of 75. There is a large and successful sixth form of 177. The College is constantly oversubscribed in year 7 with well over 300 applications for 196 places.

In September 1999 the College assumed Foundation status. Conversion to Academy status on 1st August 2012 was a natural progression and the college continues to offer excellent career prospects within the state provision. The way forward is now through collaborative partnerships with Liverpool Children’s Services.

St Francis Xavier’s College was granted Specialist School status as a Mathematics and Computing College from September 2005.
