Art is a way to communicate, explore, and problem solve.

Art education is concerned with the organization of visual material. Having individuals think and behave as artists, pointing out the values that surround the creation of art forms.

First week

SKETCHBOOK ASSIGNMENT: Each week students will be given a sketchbook assignment to be completed at home.

Criteria for sketchbook assignment:

  • Should not take no longer then 1 hour per week.
  • Sketches should be clean – meaning no rips, no smudges.
  • Sketch should fill up most of the sketchbook page.
  • Use a variety of shading, drawing techniques. This does not have to be done in each sketch – but over the course of the semester.
  • Experiment with different styles of drawing.

Evaluation:

Classroom Work, Assignments, and self-evaluations:75%

Class work ethic:15%

Sketch Book:10%

Evaluation is based on:

  • Composition /Design
  • Technique & use of medium
  • Finishing ( no rips, no smudges)
  • Challenge/creativity
  • Daily Assignments

Materials Needed:

  • The following materials are needed daily for this class: sketch book, a white eraser, colored pencils, shading stomps, range of HB pencils, a ruler, old china plate and clean large yogurt container.

Class work ethic:

  • Participate in all class activities and discussions
  • Be punctual with good attendance
  • Bring needed materials to class
  • Be organized – manage classroom time
  • Respect everyone in class. It is very important that all students feel comfortable and able to express their ideas with positive feedback.
  • Care for all art supplies. Abuse of art supplies or student work may result in you being asked to drop the course.
  • Clean up all art material when finished at the end of every class.
  • Hand in work on time & sign all work.
  • Incomplete projects are not an option.Extra help is available! Talk to your teacher and arrange a time.
  • Plagiarism in Art is classified as cheating. Be inspired and influenced by the art work of others however adapt and create ideas to become your own. Images and work created that show clear evidence of belonging to another person will not be evaluated. I.e. Superman, Godzilla, recognizable Anime work or designer logos.

Should you have any concerns I am available most days before or after school. You may also set up an appointment through e-mail or telephone. ALSO there will be an ART CLUB – this will be a time to come work on projects.
