TRACK AND FIELD

Teacher in Charge BRIEFING

  1. Shade/Sunscreen

There is limited shade in the arena. Parts of the grandstand will be in full sun. Athletes should dress accordingly and have sun protection appropriate to their needs. Hats are highly recommended.

  1. Water

All students including competitors are responsible for their own water and are advised to use their own water bottles. Taps are located on the ground level.

  1. Footwear

Schools are requested to ensure students wear appropriate footwear for all events. Running bare foot on the WA Athletics track can result in serious injuries.

  1. Spikes

The only spikes permitted for use on the track are the Christmas Tree and Pyramid shape variety as pictured below. The composition of the spike, i.e. ceramic or metal, is irrelevant and will not be monitored. Track spikes must not exceed 7mm. Field spikes must not exceed 9mm except for javelin & high jump which must not exceed 12mm.

Venue facility will be open at the rear of the Grand Stand

  1. duty teachers and students

A list of required teacher and student duties is listed below. It is the responsibility of the teacher to supervise students and ensure that they have suitable breaks without disrupting the event. It is suggested to roster 3 students on at one time then replace with another 3 after a set time period e.g. One hour. Where (6) is indicated all 6 students are needed for that amount of time. Students must not leave their assigned duty until another student has replaced them and a handover has been done.

  1. exit procedure

Venues West provides traffic officers so please instruct your bus drivers to follow their directions with regard to drop off, pick up and parking. Schools are asked to send bus drivers to collect buses at the start of the closing ceremony and line up behind grand stand for exit via the Basketball Stadium. Schools are asked to exit in a structured sequence to avoid bus congestion. We request you wait until that time occurs.

  1. photo finish

Photo finish will be used this year for Hurdles/100m/200m/400m. Runners will not be required to wear numbers.

  1. Student supervision - SECURITY

All competitors must be in the grand stand. Competitors then enter the arena from a stairwell at the front of each seated area. NO access to the ground level behind the stadium will be granted at any time. SSWA has employed a security guard to patrol the rear of the grand stand. Any damage done will be passed on to all schools.

  1. TEACHER IN CHARGE mobile phone numbers and UNIFORM COLOURS

All schools are asked to provide a mobile number to SSWA on the day to enable contact re student names/ ages etc. Please also provide details of team singlets/tops. A return slip is on page 4 of these briefing notes.

  1. Students competing out of YEAR Group

Students may compete in older year groups provided they do so for the whole day and they register their intention to do so at the start of the day. Staff members are asked to inform the computer operators prior to the first event.

12.Marshalling

Students will need to have their name recorded prior to running in hurdles, 100m, 200m and 400m events. Please ensure students report to marshalling area well in advance of start time. Students need to record their name at field events and then move to compete in track events which take precedence.

  • Each school is required to provide 6 responsible senior students and one staff official to assist in the conduct of the carnival. Any responsible, capable ADULT may act as a staff official.
  • The assigned duty is the responsibility of that school for all of the day. 3 students are needed at any one time apart from Hurdles and Refreshments where all 6 are needed for shorter periods and otherwise where indicated
  • Any roster of students and staff is the responsibility of the school.
  • Water will be provided to track and field officials on an ongoing basis.
  • Student Officials together with their staff official should report to the Carnival Managers at the tent at the finish line (northern end) no later than 9.00 am or when called.
  • IT IS ESSENTIAL THAT ALL STUDENTS AND STAFF OFFICIALS ARRIVE ON TIME.
