TEACHER OF THE YEAR GUIDELINES
2013-2014
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA FOR LOCAL SCHOOL TEACHER OF THE YEAR
MUST MEET ALL CONDITIONS BELOW:
A minimum of 3 years teaching experience
A minimum of 3 years teaching experience in Cobb County Schools
A minimum of 3 years of teaching experience at the local school from which the teacher is selected (Count the current school year)
The nominee cannot currently be on a remedial Professional Development Plan
The nominee cannot have disciplinary documentation for the previous two school years
The nominee cannot have been the school Teacher of the Year the previous year
NOMINATION PROCESS:
Nominator: (Completed by any certified staff member except administration)
Complete Cobb County Teacher of the Year Nomination Form and provide a short statement of why he/she feels the nominee should be selected as the Teacher of the Year for the school. Once nominated, principal confirms the nominee meets the eligibility requirements.
Nominee: Once nominated, and eligibility has been confirmed, the nominee must complete the Cobb County Nominee Form. The form requests information about degrees earned, years of experience, grades/subjects taught, community involvement, extra-curricular activities, and awards/recognition received. The principal will distribute the nomination form and nominee form to all eligible voters prior to voting.
VOTING PROCESS:
Ballots are developed, distributed, and counted locally, under supervision of principal.
All voting will be done by secret ballot.
Only certified employees, not including administrators, may vote.
When the votes are counted, if no one nominee receives more than 50% of the votes, the 2 nominees with the highest number of votes will compete in a run-off election. The runner up shall be the Alternate.
If the winner is a part time employee, he/she will not be eligible to pursue the Cobb County Level Winner or the GA TOTY. Per the GA TOTY Guidelines, the GA TOTY must be a full time employee.
TIMELINE:
CCSD is starting the selection process earlier in the school year to give optimum time for the district-level finalists to be observed teaching in his/her classrooms.
April 1-30: Complete Nomination Process
By April 30: Complete Voting Process, announce winner, send name of winner and alternate to Tim Baker, Human Resources.
April 30 – June 14: School Teacher of the Year completes CCSD Application for Cobb County Teacher of the Year (optional)
