Recital Class Descriptions

Tap and Ballet Combination Class (45 minutes)Ages 3-5yrs

Combination classes are designed for students 3-5years old. Combo classes are designed to introduce the fundamental basics of ballet and tap. Class time is spent focusing on creative movement, terminology and imaginative play to enhance the dancers experience and fun! They will gain experience working with others, following directions, and taking turns. They will learn basic dance vocabulary and participate in the Little Explorers program which includes fun facts, learning and monthly themes.

Note for all Classes Ages 6+

All Classes receive monthly lessons on the anatomy of a dancer, dance terminology, musicality and professional dancers past and present. The Studio by Premier Athletics feels that it is extremely important to educate our dancers about how their body works.

Ballet (55 minutes) 6+

This class is designed to teach ballet fundamentals and terminology while developing strength, confidence, balance, and flexibility. Students will become stronger technicians in all styles by participating in ballet class.

Tap (55 minutes) 6+

Tap classes focus on the fundamental tap terminology and combination of tap steps. Students will learn classical tap elements that will allow them to progress to Rhythm tap if they choose.

Hip Hop(55 minutes) 6+

Hip Hop is a street style dance. Hip Hop has many styles within it. The Studio will focus on a different style each month to expose your dancer to as many style with-in the genre. Students will learn the correct technique and terminology for the latest moves they see on TV. A great supplement to Hip Hop would be Break dancing class.

Contemporary(55 minutes) 8+

This class is designed to teach expression of dance while combining elements of jazz and ballet. Contemporary dance stresses versatility and improvisation, unlike the strict structure of ballet. The class will help the dancer connect with the music and develop their musicality and understanding of musicality and dancing to the rhythm of the beats.

**Pre-requisite – must have two years of ballet or take dance technique in addition.

Jazz(55 minutes) Ages 6+

Our Jazz classes combine a very fun and creative dance approach with the necessary technique to advance as a dancer. Classes teach basic – advanced jazz technique, terminology and movement quality; all while developing correct body alignment, flexibility, and strength.

**Pre-requisite – must have two years of ballet or take dance technique in addition.

Acro Class (55 minutes)
Premier Athletics has an extensive list of classes that can help your dancer become more familiar with acrobatics. If you are interested in learning Acro that can help supplement your dance abilities we can give you more information on our tumbling classes taught by our highly trained and experienced tumbling instructors.

Contemporary Hip Hop (55 minutes) 12+

Dancers will be taught how to portray emotion and get into the music/character. This is a newer style of dance that is displayed heavily in LA. The dancers will learn expression, intricate, lyrical and emotion. This class is for the advanced dancer.

Street Jazz (55 minutes) 12+

Street Jazz is a mixture of basic jazz technique mixed with the loose feel of hip hop. Dancers will learn locking, vogueing, whaacking and jazz expressions. This class is for the advanced dancer.

Street Hop (55 minutes) 12+

This class teaches the art of movement behind rap music. This style digs deep into more fast paced native culture of dance. Dancers will learn krumping, bucking, body placements and balance. This class is for the advanced dancer.

Housing (55 minutes) 13+

Whaacking (55 minutes) 13+

Electro (55 minutes) 13+

This class teaches hip hop techniques and sub-styles done to electro house music. This class is for the advanced dancer.

Developmental and Strength Class Description

Creative Movement (45minutes) 2yrs

Our Little Explorers dance program is designed to help each child learn the creative movement and basic ballet steps. They will gain experience working with others, following directions, and taking turns. They will learn basic dance vocabulary and participate in the Little Explorers program which includes fun facts, learning and monthly themes.

Dance Technique (45minutes) 6+

Recommended as a supplement class for ALL students 6+

Dance Technique will focus on the technical elements of ballet and jazz. Adding this class in addition to your regular dance classes will help your dancer to become a better technician. A solid technical foundation is the key to a dancers success.

Stretching/Strengthening (30 minutes)8+

Recommended as a supplement class for ALL students 8+

S-N-S – is designed to help the serious dancer stretch and strengthen their feet and ankles. Good turn out and strong ankles and good flexibility are fundamental tools for the success of all dance styles. Class time is spent lengthening the muscles, stretching and stretching the feet and ankles.

Leaps and Turns(45 minutes) 10+

A class that is essential for a dancer to perfect all sorts of leaps, turns and jumps. This class will break down the technique needed to master this technical and critical part of a dancer's technique.

Power Moves (30 minutes) 8+

This class is a great supplement to any hip hop class. Power Moves incorporates break dance moves and will help to build strength and endurance as well as aerial awareness.

Popping, Locking & Gliding(45 minutes) 8+

This is also a great supplement to any hip hop class. Popping is a specific style of dance in which the body is made to pop or “hit” on certain movements. Gliding creates the illusion that the dancer’s body is floating smoothly across the floor. Locking is a funk style of dance which consists of locks or freezes in the motion while dancing. Movements are fast and precise.
