August

  • Review your high school course work and activity plans. Colleges look for the following:
  • Challenging course work
  • Strong GPA
  • Community Service
  • Request catalogs and admissions information
  • Set short/long term goals

September

  • Identify sources of college and career information. Start reviewing college catalogs, guidebooks and websites
  • Put together a list of 10 Universities that you would like to attend
  • Study and register for the Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test (PSAT)
  • Obtain dates and locations of college fairs
  • Visit with College Advisor about Scholarships

October

  • Take PSAT
  • Inquire about Advanced Placement (AP) or summer college courses that may be available
  • Attend college fairs and financial aid nights
  • Make a meeting with College Advisor
  • Sign up for SAT/ACT if interested

November

  • Take ACT/SAT
  • Study hours for AP classes
  • Study for ACT/SAT

December

  • Your PSAT score should arrive
  • Plan to take SAT or ACT in the Spring
  • Check with the colleges you plan to apply to and find out their specific testing requirements

January

  • Go through the catalogs of your choice and talk to your parents about college visits
  • Talk to College Advisor about what colleges you would like to contact for information

February

  • Start seriously investigating private scholarships and other student aid programs. Ask your College Advisor for scholarships
  • Register and study for ACT or SAT

March

  • Continue investigating funding sources and colleges you may not have heard of
  • Register and study for SAT and or ACT if you have not done so already
  • Continue to check with College Advisor about what you need to be preparing for college

April

  • Begin scheduling visits for the summer to your colleges of choice with your parents
  • Make sure you are studying for your AP exams
  • Ask College Advisor for prep course for SAT and or ACT
  • Start getting your binder in order for your Senior Year

May

  • Take Advanced Placement (AP) examinations that are given
  • Take ACT/SAT if not done so already
  • Make your College Advisor knows what colleges you want to apply to and get ready for Senior Camp
