Strategic Plan Recommendations:
1. Should we look at outreach to
Higher education professionals?
2. Sponsor a reception – people owning their own business to offer opportunities for folks to meet individuals actually doing it.
GREAT WEBSITE: PA Employment Reform – stories of folks owning their own business.
3. Offer TA to folks interested in starting their own business.
4. Interview folks who have their own business. Make the videos available for viewing by other folks.
5. Sue and Shirley updated the group on their meeting with the Executive Directors from the Cumberland Perry and the Dauphin County Technical Schools. The meeting was informative and it was a good time to open up conversation about students with ID attending the tech schools. They confirmed that students with IEPs are attending the technical schools. The Task Grids for the career areas offered by each technical school are available on the web. The tech schools are challenged by students who need more individual support in order to attend as they do not have additional support similar to the support found at the high school. Dauphin County Tech has evening courses available for graduates. Belinda reported that in the past, OVR has paid for someone to attend one of these career related courses.
At this month’s networking breakfast, we discussed benefits. We also talked about the need to get I information to families early about the importance of work and the benefit when families and the system (when needed) work in partnership. / Sue will get details from the college.
Networking Event / Erica Kishpaugh / Erica updated the group on the discussion at the March Networking Event. The next Networking Event is scheduled for Wednesday, May 15, 8-9 a.m. at the Crimson Frog (near Gullifty’s).
TOPIC = Organizing Community Based Work Assessments – how do we collaborate with each other and with area businesses, key contacts, etc.? / Future Topic Ideas: Contact Erica Kishpaugh
Updates: / Belinda Crobak

Sue Carbaugh / OVR Updates: OVR is starting a new initiative called Early Reach. They are hiring at least one social worker for each offer. This person will be charged with work directly with schools and starting to share information with families and youth at a much earlier age….age 14. She noted that the Bureau of Vision Services has had a similar position and it have been very successful.
Sue and Shirley (Erica and Heather) plan to visit the Project SEARCH program at the Lancaster General Hospital on Friday, April 5th. Belinda informed the group that a Project Search site also exists at the Lebanon VA as well.
D.R.E.A.M. Partnership – Funding was received to hire an Executive Director and provide seed money to area colleges to develop opportunities for students with ID. An Advisory Board has formed. A Needs Assessment is underway in Cumberland, Perry and Dauphin County students ages 14-21. The information will be compiled and reported back in the near future. The pilot programs are scheduled for a January 2014 start date. / Results will be shared with the E 1st group. The group is seeking other venues for reporting the findings.
