Take an Active Interest in your child’s Education

Visiting international education expert, Andreas Schleicher, said that parents showing a consistent interest in a child’s education is the most important factor in raising his or her achievement.

“It is not the hours spent on Homework that you spend with your children, it is not about the degree that you have,” Mr Schleicher says. “It is simple things – when parents ask them every day at the dinner table, ‘How was school? What went well? Did you have any difficulties?’ – NZ Herald 11/7/13

Hailstone Experience

“Bang!” A flash of lightning illuminated the class window. As the rain fell we shivered in our seats. The smell of damp clothes permeated through the class. it was only mere seconds away when “it” started. Everyone had forgotten that they were freezing and saturated .We all rushed to the window. There it was right before our very eyes …. HAIL! The room soon filled with excitement; students eager to go outside, but told off by Miss Mackay. Moments later Mr Leighton came on the speaker in a deep voice he said “umm...” and paused UM what we were thinking later he said “Teachers if you want to take your class out for a play in the hail ahh… you can” The room lit up with joy and happiness. Miss Mackay let us go. The courts were soon a war zone-hail flying from place to place. Most of the hail balls were bigger than my whole hand. Sounds of crunched ice were the only thing you could hear. It was exhilarating. My hands were so numb they completely turned red.

But as usual the fun had to stop but overall it was an awesome experience and I’d have a hail fight any time!

National Mufti Day

Well done to all our students who helped to raise nearly $300 for KidsCan Charity – an organisation that offers fantastic support to our school.

Hailstorm

The sky turned grey, then it got darker and the shrill wind blew harder. As I glanced outside I could see that it was pouring with rain. It was raining so hard that the drain started to flood. I looked inside and everyone was talking… until they all heard the thunder. We all went dead silent then we saw a bright flash light up the sky. It was lightning. My friends were really surprised. I started to observe the rain again. I thought to myself, when the lightning comes, more thunder and lighting strikes. I kept studying my book. When someone yelled, “Look everyone it’s hailing!” We went to the window to view it. The hail was bouncing off the roof. Once the storm was over, everyone asked if we could go outside. A classroom went into the cold air to play. At last the whole school was allowed to go. People were screaming and shouting as they were throwing balls of hail.
