Description of proposal idea and rationale.

(Proposer should present description of proposal idea on this page along with a

rationale for the proposal.)

The Department of Natural Sciences would like to adopt the liberal arts science class AST 103 Search for Life in the Universe.

The Department of Natural Sciences on the Grant Campus continues to look to help our recruitment and retention efforts. Offering additional liberal arts science courses could help in this effort. Several students and a faculty member have asked in our department about this particular course. It is listed as being offered on the East and Ammerman campuses although the East campus hasn’t offered it for several years. For some reason it was never adopted to the Grant campus. Grant DNS presently offers seven sections of AST 101 and 102 each semester; our plan would be to replace one of those with a section of AST 103 in the spring semesters so not to compete with the Ammerman campus who offers the course in the fall.
