Sylvan Court aims to provide a high standard of quality childcare within a stimulating, caring environment, which will promote the development of your child as he/she learns through play.
As parents are the child’s first and most important educators, we aim to work with you as a team as this is most likely to have a positive effect on your child’s learning and development.

Our Rooms
Baby Unit
Our baby rooms are bright and stimulating with lots of sensory equipment for your child to explore.
All activities are organised to meet the individual needs of your child and are suited to their age and maturity, using careful planning linked to The Ealry years Foundation Stage.
We aim to keep the youngest of our babies within their own routine to ensure that their early days in nursery are happy and settled. Your child’s key worker will record all relevant information on a daily basis to keep you informed of your child’s feeds, sleeps and activities that they have carried out throughout the day, the diary is also an excellent home/nursery link as parents can also keep staff informed of anything that they feel relevant.
The open plan rooms ensure your child has a smooth transition from Baby Unit to Lower Toddler Unit as they are already familiar with the environment.
Toddler Unit
The routine in the toddler unit is still quite flexible giving your child lots of opportunity to develop.
All our activities are carefully selected, linked to your child’s individual needs and The Early Years Foundation Stage Framework.
The children have daily access to the outdoor play area where equipment is carefully selected and age appropriate.
Upper Toddlers Unit
As your child develops he/she gains more confidence, their knowledge of language increases and your child becomes more independent.
We now introduce a little more structure to the day and all activities are carefully selected to ensure that they cover your child’s overall development as they learn through play.
Once again we follow The Early years Foundation Stage Framework.
Toilet training is usually introduced around this age; the staff will aim to work with both the child and parents to as your child progresses through this stage of development. As each child is an individual we will encourage toilet training when the child is ready regardless of their age.
Pre – School 3 years – 5 years
Within our pre- school we follow the Early Years Foundation Stage set by the government, with the added benefit of teacher input.
Throughout this stage of your child’s development the Foundation Stage Curriculum will cover the following areas of learning;
- Personal, social and emotional development
- Communication, language and literacy
- Mathematical development
- Knowledge and understanding of the world
- Physical development
- Creative development
As your child matures, we will encourage your child to become much more independent, encouraging and supporting them whilst they learn to put on their coat or shoes and even go to the toilet. If your child requires help the staff will always be on hand.
The Early Years Foundation Stage
The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) is the statutory curriculum set out by the government for all early years’ providers, and is the framework used at Sylvan Court Day Nursery. It is based on ‘the principles which guide the work of all early years’ practitioners’. These are grouped into four themes:
A Unique child – every child is a competent learner from birth who can be resilient, capable, confident and self assured.
Positive Relationships – children learn to be strong and independent from a base of loving and secure relationships with parents and/or a key person.
Enabling Environments – the environment plays a key role in supporting and extending children’s development and learning.
Learning & Development – children develop and learn in different ways and at different rates and all areas of learning and development are equally important and interconnected.
These themes run throughout all six areas of learning and development and underpin the guidance set out in the curriculum. The six areas of learning are grouped as follows:
- Personal, Social & Emotional (PSE)
- Communication, Language & Literacy (CLL)
- Problem Solving, Reasoning & Numeracy (PRN)
- Knowledge & Understanding of the World (KUW)
- Physical Development
- Creative Development
The EYFS states that ‘play underpins the delivery of all the EYFS’ and ‘all development and learning for young children’. It ‘requires providers to ensure balance of child-initiated and adult led play based activities’ are available to the children, and places the responsibility on the individual provider to ‘use their judgement and their knowledge of the children in their care in deciding what the balance should be’. There is a strong emphasis on the value of observation and reflection, which in turn means that providers are establishing strong links between observations (of both individuals and groups) and their planning.

Staff
Our qualified experienced Nursery Nurses and Assistants have been carefully selected, not only on merit but also with the love and understanding they have with children, ensuring that a high standard of care will be provided throughout the nursery. Continuous training will be available to all our staff to develop their skills and absorb new developments encouraged by Ofsted and the Early Years Development and Childcare Partnership.
Admissions
Attending nursery for the first time is a big step for both yourself and your child, therefore we aim to make this as relaxed as possible leaving everybody happy and confident when your child begins in our care. You will also be welcome, prior to your child attending, to join us in the nursery for a short time, to meet our staff and become familiar with the nursery environment. This is only a suggestion and may not be required in all circumstances, as each room within the nursery has a telephone enabling you to contact the appropriate member of staff when you feel necessary.

Key Worker System
All children who attend nursery will be allocated with a member of staff as their ‘Key worker’. The child’s key worker will be the named carer throughout the nursery day and is also the first point of contact for parents. If the key worker is not available due to shift pattern we ensure that any information is passed on, either to the key worker or from the key worker.
The key worker will be responsible for recording your child’s development, which will be collated in a record of achievement. This record will be available to view on request.
Equal Opportunities
All children will be provided with equal opportunities, as within our nursery it is our aim that the child’s individual needs be met regardless of their gender, race, creed, class, special needs or disabilities, so that all children are encouraged to grow up with an awareness and respect for each other.
Meals
The nursery will provide all required meals and refreshments throughout the day with drinking water available at all times. All meals will be prepared on site and we aim to provide an enjoyable, healthy, well balanced diet, with any special dietary needs catered for. Parents are required to provide their babies bottled milk in a clearly labelled bag, which will be refrigerated in our separate milk room. The nursery will provide home made weaning foods unless otherwise preferred.
All meals are taken at tables, with a member of staff sat with the children.

Tea: ham or cheese sandwiches, fruit, juice or water
Nursery Fees
The nursery will be open Monday – Friday 7.30am – 6.00pm. (Closed all Bank Holidays)
1)A reduction of 10% will be given on 1 place if you have more than one child attending full-time
2)A non-returnable deposit of £167.50 or one week’s fees is required, which will be off set against your final payment to the nursery providing fees are paid up to date and 4 weeks notice, has been given.
3)There are no reductions for holidays or sickness
4)Fees will be assessed annually(October)
Other Information
Fees
All fees are payable monthly in advance by standing order. Fees include all meals, but are exclusive of nappies and wipes (bottled milk if your child requires it)
One months notice is to be given on termination of contract or reduction in attendance.
Security
Any child may only leave with a designated person known to staff, if anyone else is to collect your child staff must be notified and the nursery password will be asked as security.
The nursery must be notified immediately if there is any change to address, contact numbers or any other relevant information.
Clothing
All children must be provided with a spare set of clothes in a drawstring bag and all items must be labelled.
Sickness
If your child is suffering from any infectious illness you should refrain from sending them to nursery until certified well by their doctor. Please do not send your child to nursery if they are suffering from any of the following sickness, diahorrea high temperature or severe coughs or colds. If a child becomes ill whilst in our care every effort will be made to contact parents or designated person.
