TEXTBOOK: PRE CALCULUS, West Publishing Co., 2nd ed., 1994

HOW GRADES ARE COMPUTED: Grades are based on a weighted points system: Chapter Tests 60%, Quizzes 25%, and Projects and other Assignments 15%. Grades will be determined based on the standard Xavier grading scale as published in the Student Handbook.

HOME STUDY: Students will be expected to put in at most 1 hour per night on homework. Homework will be assigned and it is expected that the students will work the assigned problems. However, the homework will not be collected or graded. It is a learning tool for the students.

TUTORING: The instructor will be available for additional help during “X”, between 1st and 2nd block (Tuesday through Friday on X days and Monday through Friday during “Z” from 3:00pm to 3:30pm (except on the instructor’s duty day). The instructor can also be available before school with prior arrangement.

WHAT PARENTS CAN DO TO HELP

• A) Be involved in your student’s education. Expect the best from your student.

• B) Encourage the student to establish a regular homework routine. They will receive homework in this class virtually every night and it will be difficult for them to keep up without faithfully doing the assigned homework.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Student’s progress can be checked at any time on PowerSchool. Grades will be updated 2-3 times per week. Class information, such as assignments, upcoming events and links to helpful and/or interesting sites will also be available on my Teacher Web Page

TESTS AND QUIZZES: Quizzes will be given every Wednesday and Tests will be given every Friday. All Tests (after the first) will be cumulative.

TEST CORRECTIONS: Due 3 class days after each test is returned! (To be written on loose leaf paper, turned in with and stapled on the BACK of the test!, )

For each problem missed the student MUST write a paragraph (or paragraphs), using complete sentences, that detail: 1) What mistake was made? 2) How should the problem have been done correctly?

POINTS FROM THE TEST CORRECTIONS GO INTO THE CATEGORY – PROJECTS AND OTHER ASSIGNMENTS ! !

ABSENCES ON (OR BEFORE) TEST DAYS: Should a student be absent on the day of a test, the student WILL be expected to take the test on the next day that the student returns to class. Should the student be absent the day before a test, the student will still be expected to take the test on the scheduled day (unless special arrangements are made with the instructor - permission for alternate test arrangements will be rare and granted only in exceptional circumstances!!!).

CALCULATOR POLICY: The TI83/84 calculators will be used, at times, in this course. However, they are NOT expected to be used in class as video games. Students playing games on calculators will be warned once. After that warning, if the student plays again, the calculator will be confiscated for the duration of the class period and ALL programs will be erased.
