Classroom Expectations:

In this class we are Professional Scientists at all times. This means that we commit to practicing the habits and behaviors of professional scientists the moment we enter the classroom. Good models of what it means to be professional scientists are calm, precise, poised, communicate effectively, work together in teams, evaluate evidence, read, write, infer, and draw conclusions. Even if you do not see yourself as a professional scientist, you must pretend that you are, and in time it will become more natural.

Homework

Homework assignments are given to students to assist them in understanding class content and to practice relevant skills. When a teacher gives a homework assignment, he/she has the following expectations: 1. The assignment will be completed as directed and determined by the classroom teacher; 2. The assignment will be turned in on time (correct due date and time); and, 3. The assignment will be legible and understandable. If handwritten, the homework will be neat. Late homework assignments will not be accepted, will be given no credit, and the student will receive the score of a zero (0).

Important Classroom Policies:

Absence Procedure:

  • On the day you return, check the Absences Bin for any assignments you missed.
  • Ask a fellow scholar for any necessary notes.
  • Schedule a time with Mrs. Snedeker for help before school.
  • You have 1 day to turn in work from every 1 day you were absent before it is counted as late.
  • Turn in any necessary material to the assignment tray and mark ABSENT on the top.

Make-up

Work When a student is absent, regular or prearranged, it is his/her responsibility to contact the teacher(s) to obtain makeup work. A request for homework collection may be made with the High School office after a student has been absent for two (2) consecutive days. Students will be given an equal number of days as their absence to complete the assignments. However, teachers will use discretion in setting deadlines for make-up work. Such deadlines should be mutually established by teacher(s) and student. Students who are returning from a prearranged absence are expected to present all make-up work and take tests or quizzes the day that they return to school.

Quality Work: All final copies of assignments are expected to meet the quality work standards.

  • NOT crumpled, ripped or stained
  • Has clean edges and is legible
  • Completed at your PERSONAL BEST

Late Work:

  • Turn in QUALITY work ON TIME and COMPLETE always.
  • Late work will not be accepted.
  • If you are caught doing a homework assignment in any class, you will receive a zero (0).

Beyond those classroom expectations and policies, this science class is fully aligned with all of the Hanover Central school-wide standards for behavior management, academic performance, and all other protocol/policies set forth by the school and its administration.

In order to help you meet all of our goals and get the most out of your Biology experience, I can be reached via email at if you would like to schedule a time for extra assistance.I look forward to working with you this year! If you work hard and are the model of a professional scientist every day, you will have a successful year. Let’s get started!

Sincerely,

Mrs. Snedeker
