STARTER UNIT

Vocabulary: Family members: parents, mum, brother, husband, dad, aunt, sister, grandma, cousin, uncle, wife granddad, grandparents.

Vocabulary: School subjects: English, French, Geography, History, ICT, Maths, Music, PE, Science.

Vocabulary: Sports and activities: Do: yoga, karate, judo. Play: basketball, volleyball. Go: bowling, cycling, skateboarding, surfing, swimming, skiing, snowboarding.

Grammar: There is … /There are….; some / any; Present Simple (verb to be); adverbs of frequency: always, usually, often, sometimes, never. Have got. Possessive´s: My brother´s name is Paul. My grandparents´ house is quite big.

UNIT 1

Vocabulary: bookshop, chemist, clothes shop, department store, electronics shop, music shop, newsagent, shoe shop, sports shop, supermarket.

Adjectives: amazing, awful, brilliant, wonderful, huge, boiling, freezing, horrible, terrible.

Money verbs: borrow, buy, earn, save, sell, spend.

Adjectives with un prefix: fair- unfair; friendly-unfriendly; happy-unhappy; helpful-unhelpful; tidy-untidy; usual-unusual.

Grammar: Present Continuous: I am eating.; I want to have pasta for lunch, I would like to visit Paris, I would prefer to watch a movie. Enough: I don´t have enough money.

Writing: an email.

UNIT 2

Jobs: artist, astronaut, dancer, firefighter, musician, nurse, police officer, scientist, vet.

Expressions with make: make a cake, make a mistake, make friends, make a suggestion, make history, make sure, make a bed, make a phone call.

Adjectives of character: brave, calm, cheerful, friendly, funny, kind, quiet, serious.

Adjectives with ness suffix: happy-happiness; ill-illness; kind-kindness; sad-sadness; tidy-tidiness; weak-weakness.

Grammar: was / were. Past Simple. Yesterday I visited an art gallery. Defining relative clauses: who / where / which.

Writing: a description of a person you admire.

UNIT 3

Action verbs: catch, chase, climb, hide, fall over, jump, run away, throw.

Expressions with look: look for, look after, look in, look like.

Adverbs of manner: good-well; fast-fast; hard-hard; bad-badly; slow-slowly; quick-quickly; easy-easily; careful-carefully; good-well; happy-happily; quiet-quietly.

Nouns with “er”: build-builder; explore-explorer; farm-farmer; island-islander; paint-painter; photograph –photographer, shop-shopper; swim-swimmer.

Grammar: Past Continuous: I was listening to music. Could / Couldn´t: I could ride a bike when I was

four.

UNIT 4

At home: blanket, carpet, cupboard, curtains, desk, mirror, pillow, shelf, sink, towel, wardrobe.

Expressions with do: do sports, do the housework, do the washing, do Maths, do the shopping.

Appliances: cooker, dishwasher, freezer, fridge, hairdryer, heater, iron, lamp, washing machine.

Verbs with up and down: come up (the sun comes up); put up (your hand); lie down ( on your bed/sofa); go up (the hill); get up, go down, sit down, stand up, put down (your pen) put up (pictures on the wall).

Grammar: Comparatives and superlatives. This room is bigger than my brother´s room. The living room is the biggest room. Must / Mustn´t. You must do your homework. You mustn´t use your mobile in class. Should / shouldn´t: You should study more. You shouldn´t go to bed late.

Passive voice: The castle is visited by 1000 tourists a day. The castle was surrounded by a wall.

Writing: a description of a house.

UNIT 5

Computer words: keyboard, laptop, memory stick, microchip, mouse, printer, smartphone, tablet, touchscreen.

Suffixes ful and less: beauty-beautiful; care-careful-careless; hope-hopeful-hopeless; pain-painful-painless; power-powerful; use-useful-useless; wonder-wonderful; colour-colourful-colourless.

Technology verbs: click on, log onto, scroll down, shut down, sing into, turn down, turn on, turn up.

Phrasal verbs: get up, look for (someone/something), sit down, take off (your coat), wake up, go back, put on, turn on.

Grammar: Will / won´t; May /Might: It may rain later. First Conditional: If it rains, I won´t go to the park.

UNIT 6

Life events: be born, get a job, get married, go to university, have children, learn to drive, leave home, leave school, start school, take a year out.

Phrasal verbs: find out, get on/off (a bus), go out, grow up, try on (clothes), write down, switch on/off, look for.

Containers and materials: cans, cardboard box, cartons, crisp packets, glass jars, plastic bag, plastic bottles.

Verbs with prepositions: dream about; learn about something / to do something; listen to; pay for something, spend money on, wait for.

Grammar: Will vs Going to: It will send you an email / Next summer we´re going to visit Moscow. Present Continuous for the future: I am getting married next spring.

Writing: a thank you email.

UNIT 7

Accidents and injuries: bang your head, break your leg, burn your hand, crash your car, cut your finger, fall off your bike, hurt your back, slip on ice, trap your finger, trip over the dog.

Expressions with get: get home, get injured, get married, get better, get sick, get worried, get dark, get dressed, get fit, get older.

The body: elbow, ankle, shoulder, neck, knee, wrist, back, chest.

Grammar: Present Perfect: I haven´t been to Europe, but I´ve been to Africa. Have you ever had an accident?

Writing: an email refusing an invitation.

UNIT 8

Free time activities: draw pictures, have a party, meet friends, play an instrument, play computer games, read books or magazines, spend time with your family, take photos, use the internet, watch films.

Expressions with have: have a good time, have a shower, have a rest, have a problem, have a meal, have a party.

Expressions with make: make sure, make a bed, make a cake, make a suggestion.

Expressions with do: do housework, do homework, do a favour, do the shopping.

Expressions with have: have a party, have fun, have a swim.

Adjectives of feeling: afraid, angry, bored, embarrassed, excited, interested, surprised, tired, upset.

Other: having a party, playing an instrument, playing jokes, taking photos, using the Internet, watching films, meeting friends, reading books.

Grammar: One/ones: This one is my favourite picture. These ones are my favourite computer games.

Writing: an email invitation to a friend.
