Required Personal Protective Equipment: CSA approved safety glasses; CSA approved steel-toed footwear, leather gloves for sharp edges on stock.
GENERAL NOTES: The standard use of the box and pan brake is used to form an object, such as a box or pan with four sides and a bottom and a narrow return flange on the top of a box, from one sheet of metal. It is also used to form electrical and electronic switch boxes, cutout boxes, panel board cabinets, tote boxes and conveyor buckets.
Job Safety Analysis:
Step / Description / Hazard / Controls1 / Remove jewelry and tie back long hair that may be caught by the fingers of the brake. Remove drawstrings from pullovers as they may get caught in the fingers. / Bruises, pinches. / Remove all jewelry and drawstring that may get caught in rollers. Tie back long hair.
2 / Ensure work area is clean prior to start. Make sure no one is standing around the machine when using the brake. / Hit, Bruise, Pinch. / Good housekeeping clean up and clear off debris, remove any debris that you can slip, trip or fall over. Make sure the area is clear of people before using the brake.
3 / Retrieve project to be put in the brake. Insert sheet metal under the fingers. Pull down the clamping handle to hold sheet metal in place. / Pinch / Focus on task- adjusts sheet metal in marked spot for bend.
4 / Raise the bending leaf to make a bend. / Pinch, Cut, Bruises. / Careful not to hit anyone when using the bending leaf.
5 / Open the top leaf and remove the finished box. / Cuts Bruises, Pinches. / Put down Bending leaf gently.
