SAFE WORK PROCEDURE
DO NOT use this machine or perform this process unless a supervisor / teacher instructed you in safe procedures / operation and have given you authorization to perform associated tasks.
Always use tools and equipment for their intended purposes only.
Always take out of service and report damaged equipment to your supervisor / teacher without delay.
Pre-Job Safety:
1)Ensure that guillotine cutter equipment is located only in areas for authorized use and away from students in general.
2)Ensure that there is a finger guard in place to the immediate left of the cutting blade. This would be the wire frame or angle that allows the paper underneath to cut, but helps prevent fingers from traveling into blade. If the guard is damaged or not present, take the equipment out of service and report the need for repairs to a supervisor in charge.
3)Ensure that the cutter is set up on a clean, dry, level and sufficiently wide surface at the appropriate height to operate safely and to prevent from falling during operation.
4)Inspect the cutter to ensure no obvious damage and remove any object that may get in the way of smooth operation.
Set Up:
5)The blade should be in the full down position when not in use. If equipped, unhitch the safety latch to allow raining of the blade.
6)Place paper to be cut on the cutter surface.
7)Lift cutting blade to full up position and keep right hand on blade handle. Ensure that there is no excess movement of the cutter on the set up surface. If there is excess movement, place blade in full down position and take steps to stabilize the cutter prior to use.
8)Position paper to be cut by sliding paper on surface using left hand only. The paper should slide under the guard. Keep your left hand on the paper to hold in place. Left hand and fingers must be a minimum of 3 inches away from the guard. If the work piece does not allow this, do not make the cut as the material is too short to cut safely.
Operate / Perform Process:
9)Push down blade with right hand until in full down position.
10)With blade in full down position, remove the cut paper using the right hand to slid the paper away from cutter then lift away.Repeat process as necessary, always keeping both hands in the correct place and never in the path of the blade.
11)On last cut, leave the blade in the full down position.
Post Job Procedure:
12)If equipped, hitch safety latch to keep blade secured in down position.
13)Clean up any paper debris using appropriate methods for the area.
14)If cutter is damaged, report the situation to your supervisor to ensure that the equipment is taken out of service and repaired or replaced.
15)Report any hazardous situations to your supervisor / instructor immediately.
