Swim-a-Thon Fundraiser!

Hi All

On Tuesday, July 10th ACAC will be holding a USA Swim-a-Thon fundraiser. All active ACAC members will be required to participate in this fundraising event. If you cannot attend, a buy out option is available. Because we are a non-profit organization, fundraising becomes essential to sustain the clubs operation and improvement costs. If you go onto any other clubs website in the state, you will see that they ALL have fundraising requirements, so we hope you can see the importance of these required fundraisers for ACAC.

In the next week or so your child will be coming home with an official Swim-a-Thon pledge form. Below is a brief description of what a Swim-a-Thon is and also some FAQ's about our Swim-a-Thon. Please take a minute to read about it.

Following the event, we will be hosting a picnic for the swimmers with hotdogs, food and drinks to reward them for all their hard work.

WHAT IS SWIM-A-THON?

Swim-a-thon is a fundraiser thru USA swimming in which participants earn money for their team by swimming lengths of the pool. Swimmers have a two-hour period to swim a maximum of 200 lengths. Participants get pledges from businesses, family, neighbors and others before swimming. The exciting benefits of this program are the Swim-a-Thon is not only an excellent fundraiser, but also an opportunity for ACAC to combine swimming and a social event. Additionally, Swim-a-Thon can boost ACAC team spirit and increase community awareness about our club.

Fundraising Tips

Establish a goal to shoot for

  • Make a list of all the people you might ask for a donation
  • Try to ensure that the first pledges are the largest ones-hopefully the rest will follow suit and you can tell others how much you have collected.
  • Ask family members to collect sponsorships on your behalf
  • Send an email to everyone in your address book asking them to sponsor you
  • Ask all those who ask your family to donate throughout the year
  • Be enthusiastic about your fundraising

Swim-a-Thon FAQ’s

Q: What are the date, time and location of the Swim-a-Thon?

The Swim-a-Thon will be held on Tuesday, July 10 from 5-7pm at the Ames High Pool. Participants can only swim a maximum of 2 hours, so you can come anytime after 5pm to complete your laps. The event will conclude at 7 pm. and a picnic with hot dogs, food and drinks for the kids will follow!

Q: Do I have to participate?

Yes, all active ACAC members are required to participate in this fundraising event and collect a minimum of $50 per individual or $75 per family. If you are unable to attend the actual swim, you will be required to make the minimum buy out of $50 per individual or $75 per family. The Clubs goal is: $10,000!

Q: What is the money we collect used for?

This year our proceeds from this fundraiser will go towards the scoreboard that we used at Rock the Blocks Meet. In addition, 5% of what we collect will go directly to USA swimming to run their operations, including programs to promote swimming in the USA.

Q: How should I collect money? By lap or just a lump sum?

In the past, most everyone has collected a lump sum. This is advantageous because it does not require a lap count. Although everyone is attempting to swim the 200 maximum laps, not all swimmers are capable of this (as stated by the USA Swim-a-Thon, your coach will help decide how many laps you should swim). Also, the lump sum can be collected at the time the donor has agreed to donate. If you collect by lap, you must then calculate the amount donated after you swim and return to collect the money. ALL monies must be turned in no later than Tuesday, July 17th.

Q: What about prizes?

We have some great prizes again this year to encourage swimmers to get out there and be our top fundraiser. Top money makers will choose from the following: $200 Visa gift card, $100 Visa gift card, a photo package by Amy Pyle which includes a 16x20 photo or photo collage ($100 value) and Olympic Trial gear. All Monies collected to be used to calculate prizes will be due byTuesday, July 17th!

Q: What if I have other questions?
