Swansea University – Attraction and Recruitment

Step2: Attraction

Guide to Tweeting a job

The University has a Twitter account: @SwanseaUniJobs where all jobs are tweeted.

A tweet can include 140 characters and this should include the link so that viewers can click directly to the job for further information and to apply. A successful tweet will be viewed and re-tweeted and you will be on the way to creating excellent job opportunity posts that will gain the maximum exposure from potential candidates.

Key Tips

  1. Use job search related Hashtag

Always use the #SwanseaUniJobs but if you have enough characters left include other job search related hashtag for example #JobOpening #Job #JobSearch etc. People looking for jobs will search these hashtags so by including them your jobs come up in their searches.

  1. Hashtag the job location

You should hashtag or include the location of the job in the Twitter post so whether it is #Swansea or #Wales or #UK for jobs requiring global attraction. You want to make sure to include location as this is another popular technique used by social media job hunters. A job seeker looking for a job will combine a job-related hashtag with a location for example ‘#JobOpening Swansea’ or ‘#Job Wales’. This way they only see jobs in the geographic area they are searching.

  1. Link directly to the job advert

The tweet should link directly to the posting page rather than the general careers page. Adding a link makes it as easy as possible for the candidate to apply, and it makes the University look organised and professional. You should use a shortened link rather than the actual one, to save on charter count that Twitter limits.

  1. Tweet at Job dedicated Twitter Accounts.

You should include other University Twitter accounts in your tweet. You can find these by doing a search on Twitter. By mentioning the College / School or Department they will retweet your tweet meaning their many followers will see it.

  1. Add any specific benefits

Include the main benefits for the position which could be different depending on the audience so could focus on salary, generous pensions, team working environment or excellent benefits

  1. Add a Picture or image

A visual image or photo will be more attractive and provide more of an impact for potential applicants.

  1. Add a call to action.

Add a call to action to create a sense of urgency in applying and potential candidates to carry out the action. For example ‘Apply now’, or ‘See more here’ are good calls to action. Ideally they should be placed before the link.

Example Tweets:
The following Tweet from Specific includes a picture, a link to Engineering and the relevant # links.
