COURSEDESCRIPTION:

This is a full 3-credit hour study abroad program designed to help students develop:

1) An understanding of the concepts and strategies regarding sustainable supply chain management

2) An appreciation of global diversity through studying the history of Brazil, experiencing its culture and learning basic Portuguese phrases

3) An understanding of the Brazilian automotive industry

LEARNING APPROACH

The course combines multiple learning tools in order to help the student achieve the above-listed learnging outcomes.

  • Students are required to read two books and select newspaper/magazine articles(topics of sustainability and Brazil history) and will be quizzedprior to travel on their knowledge and understanding of their readings.
  • Additionally, prior to travel, there will be a written and verbal language quiz on a list of 200 basic Portuguese words and phrases.
  • Students will have the opportunity in both Rio and São Paulo to have face-to-face interactive presentations with Brazilian university students studying supply chain management. Students will be measured on both the quality of their presentation and interactionsas well as their professionalism during these interactions.
  • Students are required to synthesize their overseas experience and learning in a thoughtful essay that is written post-trip
  • MBA students will also analyze a case study dealing with supply chain sustainability

Students will also be graded on their overall professional behavior and punctuality for all events, including pre-trip meetings.
