V. PROGRAM

  1. Approve the school district’s assumption of full financial responsibility for all tuition costs

associated with students’ participation in the CapitalAreaSchool for the Arts.

B. Approve a SusquehannaTownshipSchool District elementary summer school program for grades 1

– 5. Summer school sessions will be held at Sara Lindemuth Monday through Friday from July 7 –

July 31, 2009. Emphasis will be placed on reading, writing and math skills. Reading sessions will

be held each day for one hour (8:00am – 9:00am). Math sessions will be held each day from 9:15am

– 10:15am. Writing activities will take place each day from 10:30am – 12:00pm. Tuition for all

participating students will be $75.00. Staff will be comprised of two teachers and two instructional

aides. As per professional contract, teachers will receive $36.79 per hour. Aides will be paid based

on current salary level.

C. Approve a SusquehannaTownshipHigh School summer program for grades 9 -12. Summer school

sessions will be held at SusquehannaTownshipHigh School Monday through Friday from June 24 –

July 29, 2009. Students may take one or two courses during sessions that will be held from 8:15am –

10:15am and 10:30am - 12:30pm. Tuition will be $130.00 per one credit course and $90.00 per 1/2

July 1, 2009. The number of staff will be determined as student numbers dictate.

D Approve the New Beginnings summer camp to be held at SusquehannaTownshipHigh School.

Students ranging from age 14 – 17 will attend camp sessions being held June 22 – August 7, 2009.

Monday through Thursday 12:00pm – 3:00pm, four teachers will be needed to instruct daily

academic sessions. Each Friday, students will be off campus. Teachers contractually will receive

$35.55 per hour before July 1, 2009, and $36.79 after July 1, 2009.

E. Approve homebound instruction for a 10th grade and an 11th grade high school student effective the

2008-2009 school year.

VI. PERSONNEL

A. Resignations

1. Approve the resignation of Mr. Michael Loomis, Grade 3 teacher at Thomas W. Holtzman, Jr.

Elementary School, for the purpose of retirement, effective at the conclusion of the 2008-2009

school year.

  1. Approve the resignation of Mr. Glenn E. Signor, Sr., as head custodian at the middle school, for the purpose of retirement effective, July 10, 2009.
  1. Approve the resignation of Ms. C. Pamela Weinberg, middle school special education/learning

support teacher, for the purpose of retirement, effective the end of the 2008-2009 school year.

4. Approve the resignation of Ms. Theresa Wingert as a substitute food service employee at the

middle school, effective April 24, 2009.

B. Recommended for Employment

1. Approve the employment of Ms. Sarah L. Dylewski as a temporary professional employee, to be

the speech/language therapist at the Thomas W. Holtzman, Jr. Elementary School, at $40,868.00

(Master’s Degree, Step 2), effective the 2009-2010 school term. Ms. Dylewski earned a B.A. and a M.A. Degree in Speech and Hearing Sciences at EdinboroUniversity.

2. Approve the employment of Mr. Jeffrey S. Butt as a long-term substitute teacher at the middle

school, to teach 8th grade science, at a pro-rated salary, based on $36,666.00, effective April 8,

2009 and continuing through the 2008-2009 school year. Mr. Butt earned a B.S. degree in

engineering at PennsylvaniaStateUniversity and a M.S. degree in biology at ShippensburgStateUniversity.

3. Approve the employment of Mr. Jason M. Meckes as a long-term substitute teacher at the middle

school, to teach 7th grade English, at a pro-rated salary, based on $36,666.00, effective March 30,

2009 and continuing through the 2008-2009 school year. Mr. Meckes earned his bachelor’s

degree in elementary education at Millersville University of Pennsylvania.

4. Approve the employment of Mrs. Barbara Ecklund as a long-term substitute teacher at the Thomas

W. Holtzman, Jr. Elementary School, at a pro-rated salary, based on $36,666.00 (Bachelor’s Degree, Step 1), retroactive to March 20, 2009 and continuing through June 4, 2009. Mrs. Ecklund earned her bachelor’s degree in elementary education at the University of Pittsburgh and is currently employed as a day-to-day substitute teacher in our district.

5. Approve employment of the following additional “Guest” substitute teachers, effective the 2009-

2010 school year:

6. Approve the employment of Dr. David McNeal as the school dentist for the 2009-2010 school

SchoolKeiser-FearenLibraryMediaCenter, at $12.29 per hour, effective April 28, 2009.

8. Approve the employment of Mrs. Glenda McCarthur as a long-term substitute secretary in the

high school guidance department at $15.55 per hour, effective upon the first day of leave for the

permanently employed secretary.

9. Approve the employment of Ms. Miriam McIntyre as a substitute food service worker, pending

clearances, at $9.28 per hour, effective February 4, 2009.

  1. Approve the Treasurer’s Report for the period ending April 22, 2009, showing a balance of

$9,448,964.46.

  1. Approve payment of bills of the General Fund as listed in the Computer Check Register,

ending April 20, 2009, totaling $3,440,804.11.

  1. Approve payment of bills from the Activity Fund as of April 15, 2009, totaling $8,932.70.
  1. Approve payment of bills from the food Services Fund, March 11, 2008 through April 14, 2008, totaling $174,649.13..
  1. Approve the submission of mandate waiver to the Pennsylvania Department of Education, waiving the $10,000 bidding requirement under the Pennsylvania School Code and increasing the threshold to $15,200.
  1. Approve the submission of mandate waiver to the Pennsylvania Department of Education, waiving the requirement of the PennsylvaniaSchool code to obtain existing state contract prices and, therefore, allow the administration to negotiate and accept prices below state contract.
  1. Approve a change order with Robert Feaster Corporation for work which was not part of the original contract to perform waterline connections and the capping of the existing waterline on Progress and Elmerton Avenues.

H. Approve budget transfers as enclosed.

I. Approve payment of the Capital Projects Fund as listed in the CPF Check Register as of April 22,

2009, totaling $162,390.52.

  1. OTHER

A. Approve the contract with Rohrer Bus Services, effective July 1, 2009, for three (3) years, at an

overall increase of 1.7% for 2009-2010 and pricing per bus and van run in accordance with the

Pennsylvania Department of Transportation formula for reimbursement of transportation

expenditures.

B. Approve Sara Waters as the new junior class student board representative and Ime-Ime Umana as the

senior class student board representative for the 2009-2010 school year.

C. Approve the annual retirement breakfast to be held 9:00 a.m., Friday, June 5, 2009, at a cost not to

exceed $1,500.00.

D. Approve permission for the superintendent to employ personnel prior to the May 18, 2009

school board meeting
