Girls Camp Theme 2016

“The Lord is My Light”

John 8:12:

“Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.”

1. Be of one heart and one mind-

The Savior prayed that those who believe in Him might be one, even as He and His Father are one (John 17:20–23). He has commanded us, “Be one; and if ye are not one ye are not mine” (D&C 38:27). (lds.org) We are a team! A team is unified, respectful, and kind. "Speak kindly and positively about others. Choose not to insult others or put them down, even in joking. Avoid gossip of any kind, and avoid speaking in anger. When you are tempted to say harsh or hurtful things, leave them unsaid." (For Strength of Youth, Language) Always work together in pairs. No one-on-one with the younger YW.

2. Be an Example-

The Apostle Paul asks us to “be … an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity” (1 Timothy 4:12). As a believer, the Lord has called you to a great work. He trusts you and wants you to “be an influence for good” through your righteous example (see For the Strength of Youth [2011], iii).(lds.org) Uphold all standards outlined in the For Strength of Youth Pamphlet, as well as our girl's camp Code of Conduct. Please pay special attention to our dress code. Remember the power of a good example! These young women are looking up to you and following where ever you lead. Support the camp policy of no electronics at camp, you will be glad you did! Cell phones are a distraction and can lead to unnecessary trouble at camp.

3. Be Happy-

Sometimes work at camp can be tiring but you have the opportunity to lighten the mood by doing the hard work with a smile and positive attitude. Although your responsibilities come first, don’t forget that we want you to have fun at camp too! We lead and serve but we find ways to have a good time!

4. Be Helpful-

Jump in and help whenever you see a need. There is always something to do and somewhere to lend a hand. When we work together we build bonds that will last.

5. Be on time-

“Behold, mine house is a house of order, … and not a house of confusion.” (D&C 132:8.) During this week at camp we are the young women’s home away from home. To remove confusion and uncertainty we have a schedule. Please be on time to all camp activities. Do not distract "your girls" from what is expected and required of them. This includes promptness at bedtime.

6. Be Christlike- In order to lead young women in the Savior’s way, you must strive to know the Savior. You will come to know Him as you study His words. The words of Christ contain true principles that will provide answers to any question, concern, or challenge you may encounter as a leader. In the weeks prior to camp, spend time preparing yourself to be used as an instrument of Heavenly Father. Pray for guidance to be lead to those who may need your strength and testimony. At camp, act on the promptings of the Spirit. Feel free to share your testimony at any time. (lds.org)
