Scenario

Day in the life of a typical CMO, amid launching their new “Kix” energy drink nationwide.

  1. Prominent floor space needs to be secured in one of their primary retailers.
  2. Critical decisions must be made on budget, in-store displays and layout, documents need to be approved, signed and the new plan must be shared with the team.

Ultimately, they are consuming and responding all day long.

  • Make critical decisions quickly with the right data, people and tools informing them.
  • See the whole picture from vision to concept.
  • Empower people & partners through meaningful feedback & intelligence of their team (inspire, can you show me something? Let me show you something).

First 30 seconds – We will land:

Pixelsense display: Display, Hinge, Ink/Touch, Power, Meticulously Crafted

  1. Hinge:
  2. Ink/Touch
  3. Power and performance
  4. Meticulously designed – what you see is a reduction of “stuff.” Minimalism isn’t just a fad, it clears your mind and focus better.

1.Screen—See the big picture

Flow: First, the CMO will setup their day by quad screening 4 applications:

Video, One Note, Power BI, One Note.

Set up their day

  • Screen size + Windows 10
  • One note
  • Power BI
  • Touchscreen
  • Mouse
  • Windows Ink

Start with the video on this beautiful screen. Review marketing budget in a Power BI dashboard and find unused budget that can be reallocated to the retail product launch in order to buy more floor space at a primary retailer. Windows Ink captures details.

2.Miracast wireless display and collaboration

Features/devices

  • Miracast
  • PDF
  • Pen

Second: The CMO has a meeting with the Executive Creative Director, who has already been working on POS designs. The ECD takes Surface Book to Miracast the work to the CMO’s Surface Studio, so they can evaluate the current POS display and designs—using Surface Pen to see what can be salvaged for the new location.

3.Collaborate in Studio Mode with Bluebeam

Features/devices

  • Bluebeam
  • Surface Dial
  • Pen

Third: After selecting the option that has the most potential, the CMO shares thoughts and work together with the ECD. Then, they launch Bluebeam, and move Surface Studio into Studio mode. Now they are working shoulder to shoulder. They introduce Surface Dial, a tool that enables creativity to flow more naturally than a mouse, and can be placed on the screen for even more precision control. The two work until agreement occurs and an action plan is set.

4.Video for when you can’t meet face to face. Skype for Business

Features/devices

  • Skype For Business
  • One Note sharing
  • Mural

Fourth: Next up is a meeting with the company’s Marketing Director. Tough news, this department will need to do a lot of reworking. The CMO then breaks news of the “opportunity” face to face over Skype for Business. At the same time in split-screen mode, the CMO will share the data found this morning from Power BI to inform the retail space opportunity. The Marketing Director also informs the CMO of some interesting work the team has been collecting on Mural. The CMO thanks the Marketing Director and decides to take a peek at Mural.

5.Mural – Collaboration on portfolio

Features/devices

  • Hub
  • Mural

Fifth: On Mural, we get to see the big picture of the campaign. A timeline, audience, branding elements, media campaigns and more. Here, the CMO catches a social campaign that seems to have legs and adds a note to follow up with one of his colleagues. The CMO also adds content from the blog post this morning, selects an item he needs to follow up on (i.e., add POS display options for 11am Surface Hub meeting--and you’re buying lunch!), and adds it to his personal list to follow up on.

All that done and it’s not even time for lunch!

Demo Steps

Important:

The presenter will need to click through 1-2 dialog boxes and wait a few seconds for the file(s) to load depending on whether or not Surface Studio is connected to the Internet. Allow OneNote to create the file on this computer <Continue anyway> and unpack notebook <Create> in the properties dialog boxes.

Introduction

Speaker Script / Actions
Today I’d like to talk about how business needs are changing globally. As you’ve seen, we’ve moved from an era of collecting, sorting and sharing raw information, to an era where our greatest value is our people delivering creativity, ideas and collaboration.

Engaging employees

Our tools have changed, and as they’ve changed, something was lost. Over the last two decades, we’ve seen a beautiful transition to tools that give us insight. And our ability to empower our employees to do more, and keep them highly engaged, will play a huge role in driving organizational success.

Digital transformation

Businesses who use digital technology to embrace transformation can pull ahead of the competition in four key areas:
  • Engaging customers
  • Empowering employees
  • Optimizing operations
  • Innovating products and services

Hardware, software & services bring Surface to life

For Surface, it’s far more than just fitting into this modern workplace. It’s about helping you go from thought, to Pen, to production. But we don’t stop there, we integrate innovative devices and useful tools that empower digital experiences as you move from place to place and from device to device throughout your day.
With this in mind we created a single computing device that will unlock the way every person creates, collaborates, and works.
It’s called Microsoft Surface Studio. / Engage with customer, making eye contact.

Hardware features and benefits

Speaker Script / Actions
Let’s take a moment to look at this device.

Meticulous craftsmanship, 11mm body thinness

It has been meticulously crafted to match the aesthetic of the empowered office. It’s thin. Minimal design. Every line has been considered to de-clutter and elevate its environment.
Its back has no belly. It maintains a sleek body silhouette the entire way across, just 11mm wide.

Three USB 3.0 ports

And note the three USB ports, ready to connect additional hard drives if you want.

Intelligent design

On the back, no power brick—it’s built into the computer itself. The cord is sleek and unobtrusive. And its intelligent strain mechanism ensures that it won’t pull out of the back of the device, so you won’t lose your work.

Thinnest screen we’ve ever created, 1.5mm

There’s nearly zero space between the screen and the pixels, a revolutionary process seen with Surface Hub, delivering an astonishingly bright and sharp image.
And that’s all before you turn it on. /
  1. Turn the device on/Wake.
  1. Show the side to show profile.
  1. Show the back of the device.
  1. Turn device to the front.

Intel 6th Gen processors; 2TB of Memory: 1 SS & 1 spinning

I won’t dwell on specs, but you should know this machine is powered by Intel’s most advanced, i7 processors, and driven by two terabytes of memory, a solid and spinning disk that keeps up all day long.
Let me show you how a CMO would start a day. Forrester research tells us that CMOs are laser-focused on growing revenue and improving customer experiences. Couldn’t agree more. For revenue, I’m in luck. We have a new product launch, Kix soda, that aims to put a spike in our sales in a few short weeks. Better yet, one of our primary retailers has new floor space opening up right in front of the store. More eyeballs, more sales. I’ll just use Surface Studio here to get all the numbers to work and then update our display to create an amazing point of sale that gives customers a reason to engage. /
  1. “Become” the CMO.
  1. Open OneNote.

Time-saving solutions

Speaker Script / Actions
Sipping a coffee at home, I create my daily notebook in OneNote on my Surface Pro 4. Let’s open it so you can see. I always have four things to review: People, Strategy, Sales, Competition. It’s all synced in real time. So when I arrive at the office I have everything in front of me and I can continue right where I left off.
But my biggest challenge today is going to be that launch event. I’ll get a jump on that by opening our company’s Q3 budget in Power BI. I’ll also open Mural, it’s pretty much our command center and I know I’m going to need it for a presentation later. And I bring up a video on retail that my VP shared last night. /
  1. Snap OneNote, Power BI, Mural, the video to four corners of the screen.
  1. Walk away from the device to illustrate point.

28” Screen Size

4.5K resolution

Dolby premium sound

That’s four programs, all full-sized, arranged neatly on one 28” screen. I’m not hunched over, cramped on a laptop or having to clumsily hardwire to additional VTC displays, speakers, and whatnot. My marketing blog has autoplay running, and since the brilliant 4.5k resolution and Dolby® Audio™ Premium gives me the picture and audio I to see and hear perfectly—I’m free to put away my coat or do anything else from the other side of the room.
Actually, this video will be handy for the team. I’ll bring it up in full screen to take a closer look. Think I better save this to my notebook. /
  1. View video in full screen.
  1. Save file and turn down volume.

Powerful Collaboration

Speaker Script / Actions

Power BI

Touchscreen

To prep for my first meeting I focus on Power BI to review the overall health of our new product launch. This overall view gives me the big picture, but there’s always some money... some where. I just need to take a closer look. Zooming in it looks like there’s some uncommitted digital advertising budget here. 250k will work quite nicely for Kix, thank you very much. I’ll make sure we have sign off, but things are looking up.

Windows Ink

Of course, if I wanted to, I could take time to engage and crunch this data in many more ways simply by using touch. What’s important now is that I share these numbers and notify the team. I’ll simply take a screen sketch in the Windows Ink space, doesn’t matter what program I’m in, mark and save it in OneNote for later. /
  1. Open Power BI to full screen.
  1. With your fingers, zoom in, snip and circle the “Unallocated” digital advertising budget.
  2. Type in “Unused budget” and save data to OneNote.
  3. Close Power BI.

Collaboration & Brainstorming

Okay, so let’s switch gears. I’m going to be playing both CMO and the Executive Creative Officer. She will be sharing the new point-of-sale options via Miracast from her Surface Book.
They’re all looking pretty good, this one is interesting. She even says we could add another shelf to hold more product?

Surface Pen

Like pen on paper

1024 levels of pressure

Even if you’ve used Surface Pen before, it’s even better on Surface Studio. This best-in- class tool makes writing on screen feel as natural as can be, like pen on paper. But here you have literally four times the room to operate. You’ve got 1000 levels of pressure to create thin or bolder lines. And it’s integrated with OneNote so saving and sharing with my team is a click away.
I turn back to my ECO--I like where this one is going. Let me open up Bluebeam, split the screen and I’ll show you what I mean. /
  1. “Enter” ECO.
  2. Miracast POS images from Surface Book.
  3. Swipe through the options.
  1. Circle second option with Pen.
  2. Turning to customers…
  3. Show Pen.

Studio Mode

(~pause~)
Surface Studio is a powerful collaboration tool, we’re not just showing, we’re doing—working shoulder to shoulder, on the same device.

Hinge

20° angle

Clutter-free environment

Before Surface Studio, this was never before possible. To go from a presentation straight into design mode without a hitch in flow. The screen effortlessly glides on a perfectly weighted counterbalanced hinge with a finger or two, retaining enough strength to work in any position, or down to a perfect, 20-degree angled drafting table. You’ll even note the screen elegantly clears my keyboard. Not an inch of space wasted, keeping my desk clutter free—and keeping our focus on the task at hand.
Now I show my ECD that that we need to add more units. A shelf on top works and should give it more visual impact too. /
  1. Use two fingers to move screen down.
  2. Open Bluebeam.
  3. Pause, show the mid-range strength.
  4. Bring screen fully down to Studio Mode.
  1. Use Surface Pen to draw another shelf on top.

Surface Dial

Speaker Script / Actions

360°

Easy access to essential tools

So let’s talk about how this looks on the floor. Let’s take a look in Bluebeam and our floor plan.
Now I’ll share another game-changer with you, Surface Dial.
Take a look. It is a solid aluminum, “puck” that feels really good in your hand. Nice weight and even balance. It turns with your fingertips left, right, a full 360 degrees and travels across tabs. Pressing and holding Surface Dial unlocks menus on-screen. It gives me quick access to the set of global controls I need on the fly—zooming in and out, rotate, undo—all the essentials.

Unique, limitless tools and features built by partners

Haptics for the ultimate precision

But Surface is all about innovation in input. Built-in haptics, or little helpful vibrations, get sent to my fingertips helping me create and edit precisely. Making it seamless between you and your tools. Plus, we built Surface Dial on an open code source, so each app will have its own unique set of features built by first- and third-party partners. So the amount of tools at your disposal can really be limitless—enabling you to operate with more and more ease. /
  1. Split screen. Bluebeam on left, POS on right
  1. Pick up and show Surface Dial.
  1. Show Undo, Redo and Zoom in/out.

Surface Dial on screen

Because to really get in tight to look at this floor plan I need to see it at two levels. So I can place Surface Dial on the screen, at the very point of creation. Using the unique split screen tool in Bluebeam we can see the space is even larger than we first expected. We can take these areas, here, here, and here, and add in our POS displays side by side.

Two hands being productive

Redefining creative flow

One other thing you may not notice is how effortlessly, without even thinking about it really, I have two hands being productive. Surface Dial in my left hand and Surface Pen in my right. The creativity comes through me, redefining creative flow. I never need to drop the Pen to switch up tools or go to the keyboard. I’m directly on the canvas and can maintain my flow, uninterrupted. We agree initial the space, then put our sketch in my OneNote notebook, and email the file for approval so we can keep moving. /
  1. Place Surface Dial on the screen.
  1. Use Pen to circle areas in the front of the floor plan.
  1. Initial above new space area using Pen.

Meet the right people with the right data

Speaker Script / Actions

Skype for Business

Right. So it’s time to get my Marketing Director up to speed. I launch Skype for Business for a video call. He may not have heard about the new space or stealing budget from digital advertising. He might even be a little miffed for being left out of the loop, so I’m going to check in face to face.

Floating sheet of pixels

1080p web camera

Microphone array

One device for both meeting and working

I return the screen to its upright positon, it’s really like a floating sheet of pixels. But look here. I’ll lean it slightly beyond it’s 90 degrees. I do this for my video calls. Only two degrees, but the 1080p web camera shifts inside the display to provide the optimum viewing angle so I’m not looking weird in the other end. See? Subtle, but I look way more natural. Up here, we but a substantial amount of development in the microphone array so your voice sounds rich and natural. Never “tinny”. And I don’t need another device on my desk take up valuable wall space for my VTC calls. Plus, all of my files, apps and the web is still at my fingertips. I’m more productive.
Now I will play my role as CMO and the part of my Marketing Director meeting over Skype. Great thing is, I can get a full, large screen to read body language and then put my MD over here and have the budget right in front of me.
Great news! We got new real estate in the front of the store. But we’re going to have to give up the digital advertising budget”
“News to me. But that’s huge.” How long do I have to make the revisions?”

Decisions made face-to-face
