SUPPORTER DEVELOPMENT CO-ORDINATOR – FUNDRAISING DEPARTMENT

MSF UK

LONDON BASED – FULL-TIME

MEDECINS SANS FRONTIERES

Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is a leading international medical relief organisation, dedicated to providing expert medical care to people at times of conflict or disaster. In over 70 countries worldwide, MSF provides both life-saving emergency relief and longer-term assistance to make healthcare services available to the most vulnerable or excluded communities.

MSF's aim is to provide impartial medical assistance, on the basis of need alone, regardless of ethnic origin, gender, creed or political affiliation. To maintain its independence from political interference, MSF relies on donations from individuals around the world. This private funding gives MSF the freedom to respond to the greatest needs as fast as possible.

As medical professionals, MSF volunteers have a duty to try and protect their patients from violence and abuse. MSF often chooses to speak out on violations of humanitarian law against civilians in conflict, refugees and other vulnerable groups, in an attempt to bring these situations to world attention.

MSF-UK is one of 24 offices and operational centres (OCs) in Europe, America, Asia and Australasia, pooling funding, expertise and staff for field operations. There are currently six departments within the UK office, (fundraising, communications, finance, programmes, medical unit and human resources) as well as an office in Dublin.

MSF-UK’s income for the year 2012 was in excess of £23million with over 87% of this being spent directly on MSF’s overseas field programmes. The UK office currently has around 60 full time staff working in the London office and placed 174 medical & non-medical staff to work in projects in the field during 2012. The staff in the UK office are dynamic and enthusiastic, all very committed to the aims of MSF and not afraid of “mucking-in” when necessary.

FUNDRAISING DEPARTMENT

The Fundraising Department raises private income for MSF field operations globally, and to cover MSF’s administration costs in the UK. Donations spontaneously generated by awareness of MSF’s work are also managed by the Fundraising Department. In 2012 a team of ten raised just over £23 million, which includes nearly £10 million from regular donations.

Our goal is to build support by bringing supporters closer to the people that MSF assists, and the medical action that private donations make possible. MSF UK prides itself on the accessibility of the Fundraising team to our supporters and the provision of excellent supporter care; this is central to the philosophy of the team. The Fundraising Department actively raises funds from the public, recruiting and maintaining this support through direct marketing campaigns, created in partnership with professional agencies. The fundraising department works very closely with the communications department, which ‘houses’ MSF’s small but dynamic digital team.
