Overall purpose
The Lloyds Bank Foundation for England and Wales is one of the leading community grant makers, backed by the long term support of Lloyds Banking Group. As part of our new Strategy, we want to develop and increase our learning from evaluation, research and our data, improve the quality of what we and our grantees do, and increase the impact of their and our work.
To help us achieve these objectives we are expanding the existing team responsible for Policy, Communications and Learning. This post-holder will report to the Research and Learning Manager and they will be expected to work closely with grant making, development, policy and particularly communications colleagues around producing learning outputs and sharing those effectively through learning events, online networking and dissemination to key external audiences. Core Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
  • Support the implementation Foundation’s framework for outcome measurement, data collection and analysis
  • Undertake regular and ad hoc analysis of data from the Foundation’s grants management database, reports from grantees and elsewhere, including evidence relating to the effectiveness of work funded by the Foundation
  • Support grantees’ capacity to evaluate their work, including guidance and dissemination of best practice and working with external suppliers of impact measurement tools and consultants
  • Undertake regular quality assurance on the outcome measurement and evaluation practice of applicants and grantees
  • Undertake research or evaluation of Foundation projects or services through, for example, grantee feedback, survey design, collating survey responses and reporting on them
  • Production of briefing papers and collating briefing material to support developments and initiatives within the Foundation and to share at learning and consultation events, e.g. with groups of grantees, advisers/consultants and other audiences
  • Develop and maintain close working relationships with colleagues right across the Foundation, particularly the Grant Making and Development teams
  • Developing and maintaining relationships with external evaluation and research organisations relevant to the work of the Foundation and our priorities for influencing policy and practice
  • Deputise for the Research and Learning Manager when required

Experience, skills and competencies
The ideal candidate will have the following:
  • Two years working in a research or evaluation role, or equivalent graduate or post-graduate qualification with strong social research element
  • Experience of undertaking desk research and producing briefings or syntheses to support strategy and knowledge development.
  • Experience of both quantitative and qualitative analysis orstrong experience in either quantitative or qualitative analysis.
  • Understanding of different research methodologies, including design and development of approaches to tracking and measuring outcomes and evaluating programmes and projects
  • Experience of applying research and analysis to practical and policy settings
  • Team working and ability to work co-operatively with a range of people, including grant managers, grantees, external partners and research organisations
  • Good organisational skills and strong attention to detail with the ability to conduct and manage several different projects at once
  • Effective communications skills (writing, speaking and listening) with the ability to summarise and present data and research findings to a range of non-specialist audiences.
  • Excellent IT skills, with experience in using and manipulating Databases, Excel, Word and Powerpoint and statistical analysis software
