Applications are invited for the role of ICT Technician (Servers) based at Service Headquarters, Thurston Road, Northallerton.
Our ICT team is key in the design, development, delivery and maintenance of the Service’s ICT infrastructure. Ensuring a customer focused system design and secure environment are at the forefront of everything we do. We are now seeking to appoint an innovative and proactive ICT Technician, who will be a fundamental team member, responsible for the efficient operation, maintenance and development of the Service’s ICT infrastructure programmes and systems.
The main elements of the role within the team are; to provide support for all ICT hardware and software, users and interfaces within the Service; the provision of advice and guidance to key stakeholders on recommended developments in line with technological advances and Service requirements and maintaining the integrity of the Service’s ICT infrastructure ensuring a secure and virus-free service.
The successful candidate must demonstrate experience and knowledge in the following areas;
· Provision of support, face to face and via telephone, in an ITIL based environment;
· Configuration and supporting modern SaaS, PaaS, IaaS and on-premises architectures in a hybrid model;
· Installation, configuration and troubleshooting Microsoft server platforms and applications;
· Support Management of Active Directory Services, DHCP, DNS, GPOs, file based permissions and IIS;
· Configuration and management of enterprise class data centre management solutions;
· Working with enterprise technologies, such as blade servers, virtualisation and networked storage in a converged infrastructure, etc.
· Support of modern client workstations (laptops, handhelds and tablets) together with network printers and other peripheral devices.
Together with strong communication and interpersonal skills, you will have the ability to contribute and work as part of a busy and flexible team. A current UK full driving licence is also a role essential.

The post is conditioned to the Scheme of Conditions of Service for NJC Local Government Services (Green Book). Benefits include a flexitime scheme, 24 days’ annual leave entitlement (29 days after 5 years’ continuous service), Local Government Pension Scheme and optional additional benefits. Anyone in the Local Government Pension Scheme is subject to the rules on abatement if they are re-employed and in receipt of a pension.

Primary Functions:
· To provide IT support for all IT hardware, software, users and interfaces within the Service;
· To assist with the IT Service Desk function and provide first and second line infrastructure and end user support;
· To monitor and pro-actively maintain the Service’s systems;
· To support the planning, procurement, management and implementation of new or replacement IT infrastructure programmes and systems, in line with fault tolerant, performance and secured designs and requirements;
· To provide advice and guidance to the Head of ITSS and other stakeholders on recommended developments, in line with technological advances and Service development needs;
· To liaise with external Service partners for all IT fault resolutions, enhancements and upgrades;
· To help ensure the standardisation of hardware and software throughout the Authority, in line with policies and procedures;
· To maintain IT standard operating procedures (SOPs) in line with legislation and internal regulations;
· To maintain the integrity of the Authority’s ICT infrastructure and ensure a secure and virus-free service;
· To help ensure software licences are available for each supported device and the Authority’s infrastructure is free from unauthorised software, in line with FAST regulations and the Authority’s Policies and SOPs;
· To provide technical contribution to specifications produced by other departments, functions and sections;
· To co-ordinate workloads with other IT disciplines within the IT section;
· To undertake development training, either on or off site, as required;

· Produce and maintain project plans for system deployments, provide evaluation data and project status reports to inform project managers / sponsors of progress;

Role Essential Requirements
IT Support Skills / Experience:
· A proven track record in providing support face-to-face and via telephone, in an ITIL based environment;
· Demonstrable experience of configuring and supporting modern SaaS, PaaS and IaaS architectures in a hybrid model;
· Proven experience of installing, configuring and troubleshooting Microsoft server platforms and applications;
· Demonstrable experience in configuring and managing an enterprise class data centre management solution;
· Previous support management of Active Directory Services, DHCP, DNS, GPOs, file based permissions and IIS;
· Experience of supporting remote desktop technologies;
· Support experience installing, configuring and troubleshooting of Office Suite and other Microsoft client applications;
· Demonstrable experience of supporting various server applications (Anti-Virus, Backups, Web / Mail Filtering, etc.);
· Proven experience in managing and reviewing infrastructure monitoring tools and processes;
· Experience in working with enterprise class infrastructure technologies, such as SAN, NAS, Fibre, etc.
· Proven experience of supporting a variety of modern client workstations (Laptops, handhelds, tablets);
· Experience supporting network printers and other peripheral devices;
· Proven track record of Asset Management.
Possess the following:
· A working knowledge of the internals of servers, storage devices, PC’s and peripherals
· Knowledge of ancillary devices connected to PCs or laptops (e.g. PDAs and printers)
· An understanding of industry standard networking principles and protocols
· The ability to contribute to specifications produced internally or by other departments
· A current driving licence
Be able to:
· Assist in the creation of Disaster Recovery plans and ensure the plans are updated appropriately.
· Comply with the Data Protection Act and ensure data security is maintained
Role Desirable Requirements
Possess the following:
· Microsoft Exchange, System Centre, SharePoint and SQL server product experience;
· Microsoft Windows 7 and 10 clients and 2008 onwards server operating system experience.
Able to demonstrate:
· Project management in line with Prince2 methodologies
· Microsoft Office suite development capability
· Some knowledge of network routers and switches
· Degree or equivalent technical qualification
Work Experience and personal attributes:
· Develop systems and software using various development tool kits, database packages and Microsoft suite e.g., C#, VB.Net, ASP.Net, SQL Server, Reporting Services.
