JOB DESCRIPTION:

Supervises the safe discharge, organization, storage, and movement of cargo through

the terminal. May be responsible for vehicle and trailerinspection and related

programs. Assists in properly planning and coordinating stevedoring and yard

operations in a safe, organized manner for maximum yard efficiency. Responsible for

staffing of union employees, for safety rule enforcement, operations oversight, and

completion of all pertinent reports and paperwork. Insures all cargo and empties are

identified and loaded in conformance with procedures and guidelines. May formulate

and implement stowage plan to insure optimum vessel stability and trim. Maintains

relationships with union and non-union personnel through proper administration of all

policies and Collective Bargaining Agreement

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION:
Minimum 4 years experience in yard or vessel operations. Union supervisory experience preferred. Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and subject to review of Motor Vehicle Record (MVR). Ability to maintain a valid TWIC card at all times is required. Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred. Must possess skill sets and demonstrate proven experience developing, improving and streamlining processes to meet established goals and objectives. Requires the ability to effectively manage projects that may vary in nature and scope. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Outlook is required (testing will be conducted).

Associate degree or job related formal training after high school required. Bachelor's Degree from a maritime academy preferred. Education requirements may be substituted by a Merchant Mariner license and at least 2 years sea time on container vessels and/or 4 years shipboard container stowage experience.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Works both inside an office environment and also outside in conditions of both high and low temperatures. May be exposed to odors, dust, dirt, mechanical hazards, high noise levels and potentially dangerous equipment. Ability to travel and work long hours, including weekends. 24-hour "on call" status required.
