STEM 10/Mechatronics Pathways

Sumter Career and Technology Center in Partnership with Central Carolina Technical College

Enrollment Criteria

Students interested in the STEM 10 program are required to have a minimum of 80% in Algebra I, have limited attendance issues and minimal discipline issues for possible enrollment.

Recruitment

The Sumter Career and Technology Center tours 8th grade students from all of our surround middle schools through our programs before meeting with their guidance counselors for the IGP.

We provide and interest survey to identify which program, if any, the students are interested in enrolling in once they get into high school. A list is compiled and sent to the middle school guidance counselor.

The STEM 10 instructor and a representative from Central Carolina Technical College also met with the 9th grade students at each of the high schools in an assembly respectively to recruit for and explain the program.

Program at Sumter Career and Technology Center

The students will be enrolled in the Sumter Career and Technology program for one year, three hours a day for both semesters of their tenth grade year.

In the tenth grade year, the two courses the students will take are Mechatronics I (CIP Code 6210) and Mechatronics II (CIP Code 6211). They will be given the opportunity to take and pass the NCCER Core Curriculum certification, OSHA 10 hour certification and CPR/First Aid.

Program at Central Carolina Technical College while in High School

In the 11th and 12th grade, students will participate in dual enrollment in morning classes at CCTC and attend their regularly scheduled classes at their home high school (2nd-4th block). Students are responsible for their own transportation to and from CCTC and they must monitor tardiness.

The courses they will take at CCTC in 11th and 12th grade:

•EEM 117 AC/DC Circuits

•IMT 131 Hydraulics and Pneumatics

•CPT 101 Intro to Computers

•MAT 155 Contemporary Mathematics

•IMT 211 Industrial Skills II

•IMT 104 Schematics

•COL 105 College Seminar

*Fundamentals of Mechatronics Certificate*Total: 25 dual enrollment credits

Program at Central Carolina Technical College (post-secondary)

During the first semester of their first year at CCTC, students will take:
