Summit Heights School Council welcomes New Families to Summit Heights!

On behalf of the School Council, I would like to welcome you to Summit Heights. Summit Heights is a warm, spirited and friendly environment that encourages parent participation and feedback and we hope that you will enjoy being a part of the school community. My name is Jill Anzarut and I am the New Parent Representative on the School Council. I will be available throughout the year to answer any questions you may have. You can reach me by email at .

Here is some introductory information to help you get acquainted with the school:

  • Council communication will be provided via email, whenever possible. Not only does this help reduce costs and save trees, it ensures information gets home quickly and directly into parents hands. Providing your information is voluntary. I encourage you to provide your email on the email distribution form included in this Friday file.
  • On most Fridays, your child will bring home a Friday File. It will contain communications from your child’s teacher, general school notices, and council related items typically when a sign-back is required. Please use this file to return any appropriate forms to the school.
  • To help you learn more about the school (general information about Summit Heights, the calendar of events for the year and special announcements) you can refer to our regularly updated school website
  • The Summit School Council has anExecutive comprised of 33 parents in 17 voting positions, our school Principal and a staff liaison. Some positions are filled at the end of the school year, however, there aremany positions that are voted on in September. The positions that will be voted on in September are: Vice Chair, Secretary, Parent at Large (Library Fund/Good & Welfare), Primary Representative (Junior Kindergarten parent), Treasurer Assistant, Special Project Coordinator, Grade Six Representative and New Parent Representative. All of these positions will be voted in during the September Council meeting.
  • School Council meets 8 times during the school year in the evening for a general council meeting. We discuss social, fundraising, and educational based issues. Our mandate is to provide ideas and opinions in order to advise the principal and where appropriate the school board. It is through the active participation of the parents, that the council can work toward improving student achievement and enhance the accountability of the education system.
  • The New Parent Tea will be held on ThursdaySeptember 14, 2017 @ 6pm. This is a great opportunity to meet the council, the school principal, and find out more about the school. The first Parent Council meeting will be immediately following the New Parent Tea, @7pm. If needed, please sign up for childcare onsite at Summit by emailing Eryn Miller at .
  • Each classroom has a volunteer “class parent” who acts as a liaison between the teacher and the parents. Class parents help the classroom teacher by organizing parent volunteers for field trips, special class lunches, Friday Files distribution or other fun school events. A letter with the class parent’s name and contact information will be sent home soon.

There are many fundraising and social events planned for this year beginning with our annual fun-filled welcome back family BBQ to be held later this month (Tuesday September 19th). Details will follow, but volunteers are always needed for these events and your participation will be welcome! Please look for me at the BBQ as I will be selling school t-shirts that we encourage the students to wear on fieldtrips (which makes our children easily identifiable) and for school photo day.

Sincerely,

Jill Anzarut, New Parent Representative
