Program Requirements

Must teach K-12 science within a watershed that drains to Gulf of Mexico.

Must be able to cover travel expenses to and from Tallahassee, and meals out of pocket for the duration of the program. *The program will cover only a few meals and you will be responsible for all others. Travel expenses will be reimbursed within 1 month after the conclusion of the program. The University does not provide advance travel funds for non-university employees. All other transportation and lodging will be covered by the program.

Possess ability to walk moderate distances carrying supplies or test equipment.

Tolerate periods of prolonged time in sunlight/hot weather.

Ability to climb (i.e. to top bunk bed, hills, steep steps, docks, boats).

Adapt to limited travel space.

Willingness to share mixed gender bunk room in some instances.

Participation in this program requires, above all, flexibility. You will be traveling long distances in a van full of people and luggage. We will be staying in dorms and other “rustic” accommodations, often in remote places. The Gulf Coast in June is notoriously hot, humid and buggy. Most activities will take place outside, either on the water, near the shore or in the field. Sometimes plans change at the last minute. You will be limited to one piece of luggage and a totebag/backpack. Any group of people will have a mixture of different personalities. Reviews of this program from previous participants have been very positive, however, you will get the most out of the course if you are willing to adapt to unpredictable situations. Please carefully consider the above before committing to this program. *If you are not amenable to any of these stipulations, it is advised that you do not apply to participate in this program.
