Cause and Effect, Chapter 7

In literature, as in life, many of the choice made by characters lead to consequences. Some of these consequences are positive and others are negative. As you read, look for actions or choices made by characters in the selection and the effects of their choices. Record at least 4 of these cause – effect relationships below.

Cause / Effect
Example:
Daisy was born with a crippled leg. Her father wanted her to be able to walk and move about, so he made her a crutch from a red oak limb with a fork on the end. / Daisy could zip around quickly with the crutch, and was almost as fast as Jay Berry was on two good legs. This allowed her to play outside in her playhouse and not be stuck inside.

Cut apart the following events from Chapter 9 and place them in the correct order.

Jay Berry goes to sleep and wakes up with a pounding headache and his britches are missing.
Jay Berry gives Jimbo an apple.
Jay Berry dreams about the monkeys throwing him and Rowdy into a well.
Jay Berry and Rowdy make their way home.
Daisy tells Jay Berry to stop feeding the apples to the monkeys or they will make the monkeys fat.
Jimbo gives Jay Berry a can of whisky mash.
Jay Berry explains to Mama that the monkeys gave him mash and got him drunk, but she doesn’t believe him.
Jay Berry pretends to cry to get Rowdy to go with him to the woods.
Jay Berry finds the monkeys drinking mash from a whisky still.
Jay Berry drinks the mash and feeds some to Rowdy.
