Summary of SGC meeting held on Tuesday 4th July.

This was the last SGC meeting of the 2016-17 school year. It was also the last meeting for Mark Lamond (Parent Representative), Andrew Reade (School Staff Representative) and Pauline Millard (Deputy Headteacher) as all are leaving Ascension Island for new adventures. The committee members were unanimous in thanking all three for their time, commitment and contributions to the SGC. Standby next school year for a round of elections as our other stalwart Parent Representatives, Christabelle Wade and Winnie Bagley, are also coming to the end of their terms of office.

Discussions were held regarding the Lower School Playground and the continued problem with the surface. Other options for different playing surfaces will be explored in the hopes a solution can be found soon. Kelly Leo has sent questionnaires to parents regarding school photos for feedback so please ensure you fill them in and get them back to her. It was acknowledged that there may be increased problems arranging visits by the educational psychologist due to the decreased access options to Ascension. It was also noted that the Friends of Two Boats had been very active with two successful fundraising events already. Confirmation was received that new sapphire blue polo shirts have been ordered to replace the grey uniform shirts. (note: both colours will be permissible until the grey shirts have run out or been worn out!). Cronks are also getting an upgrade to their house colours with royal blue t-shirts for sports.

Headteacher, Alison Emmerson presented her report to the committee covering school roll, finances, behaviour, pupil achievement and staffing.

A joint H&S audit carried out by AIG, SGC Chairperson Caroline Yon and Catherine Mildon was presented to the committee. The audit has identified areas for improvement and progress will be monitored through follow up visits next school year.

Various school policies including Primary Religious Education, Child Protection and Behaviour and also the Parent Booklet and the Aims and Values of the school were presented and agreed.

During AOB questions were raised concerning remuneration for music lessons and whether or not the mobile phone policy was still being enforced in the school. In the latter case, this has been relaxed but may have to be looked at again when wifi is available at the school.

Happy holidays
