SUMMARY OF REQUIREMENTS
The following is a brief summary of the new and revised paragraphs in the Standard for Flexible Water Connectors, ASME A112.18.6, which have a future Effective Date of September 23, 2011 and the action that may be required to determine compliance.
Paragraphs / General Subject and Comment /- / The Standards for this category, IAPMO PS 14 and IAPMO PS 74, have been withdrawn and replaced by the Standard ASME A112.18.6. The following is a summary of the new requirements in the Standard for Flexible Water Connectors, ASME A112.18.6-2009
4.1 / Materials – New Material requirements, including:
· NSF 61 evaluation for products intended to be used with drinking water
· New requirement for lead content in solders, fluxes, and alloys
· New requirement for minimum copper content in copper alloys
· New requirement for stainless steel alloy grades
Action Needed – Material composition of solders, fluxes, and alloys must be reviewed against the new requirements. Any products intended for use with potable water must be evaluated in accordance with NSF 61.
4.2 / Coatings – New requirement for coatings to be tested for Adhesion and Corrosion.
Action Needed – Any products with coatings must be evaluated to the new requirements.
4.3 / Connections – New requirement for dimensions of pipe threads, hose end threads, fill valve threads, solder connections, flare connections, compression connections, and push-fit fittings
Action Needed – Connections must be reviewed against the new requirements.
4.3.8 / Push-fit Fittings – New requirement for push-fit fittings to be tested in accordance with ASSE 1061.
Action Needed – Any products with push-fit fittings must be evaluated in accordance with ASSE 1061.
4.4 / Water Heater Flexible Connectors – New wall thickness requirement.
Action Needed – Flexible Connectors intended for use with water heaters must be reviewed against the new requirements.

5.2, 5.3, 5.4, 5.5 / Performance Requirements – New Test Requirements are included in the ASME Standard:
· Intermittent Impulse Pressure Test
· Burst Pressure Test
· Pressure Drop Test
· Torque Test
Action Needed – Products must be tested in accordance with the new requirements.
