SUMMARY OF REQUIREMENTS

The following is a brief summary of the new and revised paragraphs in the Standard for Direct Plug-In Nightlights, UL 1786, which have a future Effective Date of December 9, 2007 and the action that may be required to determine compliance.

Sections 7.2 and 9.1; Tables 1, 2 and 6 / POLYMERIC MATERIALS FOR ENCLOSURE AND ELECTRICAL INSULATION
This requirement adds electrical insulation and minimum relative thermal index (RTI) construction and performance requirements, including a 75C limit on exposed surfaces likely to grasped for removal or adjustment. Adoption of this revision will require a review and retest of presently Listed products.
Section 7.6 / PLUG BLADES
This requirement will no longer permit aluminum for blades. Adoption of this revision will require a review and retest of presently Listed products.
Section 7.7 / PLUG FACE DIMENSIONS
This requirement will no longer permit permanent mounting to a duplex receptacle. Adoption of this revision will require a review and retest of presently Listed products.
Section 7.8 / POLARIZATION AND IDENTIFICATION
This requirement will no longer permit non-polarized blades for candelabra screwshell lampholders. Adoption of this revision will require a review and retest of presently Listed products.
Sections 7.10, 7.17, 9.2; Figure 9 / LAMPHOLDER
This requirement will no longer permit screwshell lampholders for other than the candelabra type. Also included are additional construction and performance requirements. Adoption of this revision will require a review and retest of presently Listed products.
Section 7.13; Table 3 / SPACING OF CONDUCTIVE PARTS
This requirement adds printed wiring board, insulating barrier, and electroluminescent panel spacing construction requirements. Adoption of this revision will require a review and retest of presently Listed products.
Sections 7.14 and 11.9; Annex B / GROUNDING AND BONDING
This requirement adds new grounding and bonding construction and performance requirements. Adoption of this revision will require a review and retest of presently Listed products.
Sections 7.16, 11.6 – 11.8; Figures 1, 13 -15 / ELECTROLUMINESCENT PANELS
This requirement adds new construction and performance requirements for electroluminescent panels. Adoption of this revision will require a review and retest of presently Listed products.
Section 7.18 / RECEPTACLE
This requirement adds new construction and performance requirements for receptacles. Adoption of this revision will require a review and retest of presently Listed products.
Section 13 / MARKING
This requirement adds new marking requirements. Adoption of this revision will require a review and retest of presently Listed products.
