1.  Minutes of Previous Executive meeting

Motion: Moved President

That the minutes of the Executive meeting held on 3 May 2016, having been circulated, be approved as a true and correct record. Carried

2.  Matters Arising

2.1 Level of Support Provided by NZSTA Advisor

·  Coralanne Child has indicated that she is receiving concerns over level of service as are our members.

ACTION: P Holstein/N Wilkinson to contact National Office and express our concerns

2.2 Property Matters

·  M Wilson said how pleased he was personally in terms of clarification received from Coralanne Child and David Hobern that schools do have the right to determine their own pedagogy in terms of property matters.

2.3 Website Update

·  Oscar Russo has set up the website well. Will find time for him to present at a CWCSPA meeting

·  He is still working on the front page

·  Has shown N Wilkinson how to change Principal’s details and how to put Executive Minutes on etc.

·  Is not live yet

·  Oscar to be told that we want to launch it at next Principal’s meeting – 12 August

ACTION: N Wilkinson to send the Executive the link so they can view it.

5.  OCTOBER 28th CWCSPA MEETING

Suggested duplicate June 24 programme – meeting was cancelled

ACTION: N Wilkinson to ask the other two Principals’ groups if they can join us on 28/10

6.  2017 PROGRAMME

Linda Tame has offered to host us at Lincoln University to hear about their views and plans for “teaching” in the future.

ACTION: N Wilkinson take Linda up on her offer to host us in 2017

7.  RACE NIGHT – Friday 29 July at Addington Raceway

·  Booked and about to invite registrations – looking for a minimum of 15 Principals but can accommodate as many as we like

·  Silks suite hire to be paid by Cyclone – they are sending 2 representatives and paying for drinks

·  Methven sponsors invited to attend – Konica, Class and Arena – with some contribution to drinks on the night

·  Buffet meal at $35 a head arranged for 7pm

8.  POSSIBLE MELBOURNE TRIP

·  Suggested be held Week 2 (10-12 May 2017

·  Think 20 – 25 Principals will attend

·  Allow approx. $150 for meals per person

·  Potential programme

Arrive 9am and head to accommodation, meet with John Hattie and Katherine Henderson around 1pm, free time after and own arrangements for dinner that night

Thursday – school visits in morning and afternoon, reflection time late afternoon, group dinner at night

Friday – school visits until midday – out to airport to check in by 2pm

That the Association subsidize the trip at $1,000 per each member of the Association. Carried

ACTIONS:

1.  Bruce Kearney’s architect is Melbourne based will ask him re suggested schools to visit.

2.  Anyone with ideas of schools that should be visited on the trip to come back to Neil Wilkinson

3.  N Wilkinson to send out notice of registering interest to attend as we have to make a group booking.

4.  Think people may be able to come back later than the Friday afternoon if they want to

9.  WHEN ARANUI HIGH SCHOOL CLOSES

·  There are indications that up to 25 staff will seek to take the “Retraining” option

That the Executive offer to compile a centralized list of teachers who are seeking the “Retraining” option that will be circulated to schools for consideration to meet the needs of the Collective.

10.  DELVING DEEPER 2017

·  Date planned – 6 April 2017

·  This year’s version will cost the Association approx. $2,700 from MOE provided funds

·  Feedback from people who attended - enjoyed

·  Numbers from Primary/Secondary schools – similar

11, GROW WAITAHA

·  Has met to plan further Community of Practice opportunities following on from completion of the current series.

·  Will provide further opportunities in Terms III & IV for sharing

·  Next year looking at a more detailed theme for some

12. NETWORK SUSTAINABILITY

·  Understand the schools in the rebuild have agreed on their numbers to rebuild to – think will be shared at the next meeting

·  Need to consider our next steps

·  Peter Hughes and Katrina Casey doing things differently around enrolment schemes and zoning

·  Jim Greening is coming down in the next holidays

·  We are saying this should be done as a whole – not individually

·  Should also be done for Intermediate and Primary as well

·  Working group to put some options together

ACTION: The Executive request that N Wilkinson approach Coralanne Child to request that P Holstein attend this meeting to represent the CWCSPA

13. POSSIBLE SPONSOR

·  Mark Ayers (PhotoLife’s South Island Manager) is keen to support our organization and would also be an opportunity to showcase what PhotoLife can do for schools.

Executive said they were happy for him to sponsor when a suitable occasion arises.

14.  2017 MEETING DATES

·  February 24 and April 7

·  June 23 – check date of Mana Korero in 2017 to avoid clash

·  August 11 and September 15

·  November 3

15.  MEETING WITH PETER HUGES AFTER 24 JUNE PRINCIPALS’ MEETING

·  P Holstein and M Wilson were to meet with the Peter – the purpose was to raise issues at a higher level. Buildings, Enrolment Schemes and support to attract overseas teachers was on their agenda.

·  Regarding the process of attracting International, teachers – MOE are happy to look at a range of issues but nothing has been progressed.

·  Can we get support to attract teaches from Auckland to come down to Christchurch?

16.  FINANCIAL STATEMENTS FOR PERIOD ENDING 17 JUNE 2016

The following was noted:

Income to date: $30,360

Expenditure to date: $31,616

Net Deficit to date ($1,616)

ACTION: M Gordon in future to show as a separate item the Westpac Investment $80,000 MOE grant and what has been spent from it to date.

17.  GENERAL BUSINESS

17.1 K Paterson discussed a letter from Novopay re the issue of part-timers doing relief. She said they have a number of part-timers on their staff who ask for additional hours. STCA states that relievers must be paid a minimum of 2 hours per day and if they only work 1 hour of relief a given day must still be paid for 2 hours.

·  The Executive discussed this and said:

·  The part-timers should not be put down as relievers

·  Suggested she contact Harrison Stone regarding this issue

·  M Wilson will flag this at Executive meeting of SPANZ next week

·  If Novopay threaten to take money out for this payment suggest get Harrison Stone to write to them and block this happening.

·  The Executive expressed concern about her situation and asked to be kept informed of developments

17.2  Canterbury Education Forum

·  Meets 3 or 4 times a year

·  N Wilkinson attends on CWCSPA behalf

17.3  School Support Reference Group – Christchurch/North Canterbury

·  There are 4 meetings a year

·  S Sidaway was the CWCSPA representative

·  There are 2 more meetings this year – 10/8 and 26/10

·  B Kearney to attend on behalf of the Association

ACTION: B Kearney to attend the above meetings

17.4  Canterbury Cross Sector Forum

·  M Wilson attends 4 times a year
