SUMMARY:Diocese of San Jose - The Department of Catholic Schoolslocated at the Chancery Office in San Jose, CA is seeking a Director of Finance - Department of Catholic Schools. This position will report to the Superintendent of Catholic School with a dotted line to the CFO.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Establish standards for strategic financial plans and standards for Catholic schools in collaboration with colleagues in the Department of Catholic Schools
  • Prepare and review school business plans, budget, audited financial statements, cash flows and proformas to assist school leadership in creating sustainable financial models using per-pupil cost and multi-year planning strategies
  • Recommend and present financing proposals to appropriate audiences for review and approval of local school debt financings
  • Participate in school audit processes of the Diocese of San Jose
  • Initiate school visits to engage pastors, presidents, advisory boards and business managers in addressing fiscal challenges, key metrics, cash flow and development of a multi-year planning approach
  • Work closely with the groups that support Catholic education to leverage support and resources that will strengthen the impact of Catholic education in the Diocese of San Jose
  • Build relationships with community leaders and business groups, as well as local and state government entities to promote Catholic education in the Diocese of San Jose
  • Work with Diocesan leaders on future schools in the Drexel and Diocesan models
  • Any other duties as needed by the Superintendent of the Diocese of San Jose

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be a practicing Catholic
  • Background in accounting and school finance
  • Understanding of Catholic Schools, their governance and their relationship to parishes and the Diocese of San Jose.
  • Extensive experience collaborating with and communicating with Catholic schools
  • Demonstrated exceptional communication and interpersonal skills including the proven ability to engage with and inspire a wide range of stakeholders
  • Possesses critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated awareness of and commitment to the Catholic traditions of education service and social justice
  • Possess the credibility to lead and represent the Diocese of San Jose with integrity and to work harmoniously with diverse learning communities
  • Experience with Finance/Accounting and tuition management software (QuickBooks, Navision, FACTS) with the ability to apply it as part of financial planning processes
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance or related field required
  • Master’s Degree (preferred) from an accredited institution of higher learning and a minimum of five years’ experience in the field
