a)Library Automation Co-Ser 508

  1. 44 districts plus 2 non-public schools ~ Ross School and St. John the Baptist participate
  1. Current Financial Status: Revenue $393,875.00 (last year $383,299.53)
  1. Billing will be going out in March

**At this point all districts are on either Destiny or OPALS

b)Library Services/Media Co-Ser 516

  1. Virtual Reference Collection (VRC) listed on Shared Services Response Pages at $9.48 per student in grades 3-12. 2017-2018 will have a 2% increase

Discussion about the amount of times VRC is down. Harry Chan aware of the server problem and trying to resolve the issue by moving VRC to new server during a break.

  1. 47 districts plus 2 non-publics, HuntingtonUFSD, Babylon HS, Smithtown High School East and Smithtown High School West, and Half Hollow Hills CSD in Western Suffolk participate
  1. Digital Media Library (DML) listed on Shared Services Response Pages at $5.05 per student in grades PreK-12. There are 33 districts that participate. 2017-2018 will have a 1% increase

Harry Chan working on the integration of DML into the VRC for ease of use- one log on. Summer project.

  1. Current Financial Status: Revenue $2,039,782.90 (last year $1,953,018.79)

Union Catalog had 885.287Bibliographic records and 2,550,994 Item records

If doing inventory- Carl says do not purchase a scanner- it can be borrowed through BOCES and can be used

with a laptop. Check with Melanie.

  1. Legislative Update
  1. Advocacy Day wasMarch 1, 2017 in Albany, NY.- NYLA polled citizens regarding mandating a certified LMS in every elementary. Analyzing the feedback.

  1. Carl talked about moving council meetings to the end of the liaison meetings as opposed to the beginning (2:30 or 3:00)
  1. A paper mailing will be sent regarding what is available in the VRC and other SLS Services in September
  1. VRC trials will happen in March and April- already up

  1. New to the VRC: Rosen ebooks ~ 2 new titles “Spotlight on The Maya, Aztec, and Inca Civilizations” and “The Rise and Fall of Ancient Civilizations: China, India, and Mesopotamia”- this is made possible from rollover money from last year. Active now.
  1. New to the VRC and DML: Soundzabound Volume 8-
  1. Authors Unlimited- Bonnie explained and shared her experiences- well worth it- encourage students to attend.
