Subject: You have 24 hours to make Austin greater!
Dear (Friend),
Did you know March 5-6 is Amplify Austin Day, a 24-hour “give-a-thon” that encourages giving back to over 500 local nonprofits!
I chose to donate to United Way for Greater Austin (UWATX) to support local families and kids who need it most, and to become part of the largest annual giving movement in Austin. This year, UWATX is focusing their Amplify Austin Day campaign on shedding light on an underserved neighborhood—St. John’s.
60% of all children in St. John’s live in poverty. Overall, the neighborhood hasa median family income of less than $36,000.
St. John’s is home to Webb Middle School, one of three middle schools UWATX serves through itsTarget Graduation program. Over the last decade, the economically disadvantaged student population has grown by 32 percent at Reagan High School, by 11 percent at Webb Middle School, and by 2 percent at Pickle Elementary.
How is UWATX working to change this? This past year, UWATX helped 3,000 students get mentoring, tutoring and quality afterschool programs, helping more at-risk children stay on the path to graduating high school. They helped more than 400 families receive tablets with early learning apps, so that more underserved children will enter kindergarten with the skills they need to succeed. And last year United Way for Greater Austin’s 2-1-1 call center connected more than 354,000 individuals to local resources, such as food pantries and healthcare.
Please consider becoming an investor in the St. John’s community by donating to United Way for Greater Austin on March 5th or 6th. Learn more about St. John’s, UWATX’s work in Greater Austin, and how to donateby visiting uwatx.org/amplify.
