3/2/15

Subject of Meeting: Capital Expenditure/Improvements

Introductions

David Price – Treasurer:

  • Explained how capital reserves have increased from $8,000 to $134,000 over last 4 years
  • Included in this is the 10% of fundraiser funds that go into reserves

Projects Up for Discussion

  1. Fieldhouse – plans are 4/5 years old. Estimate of $100,000 over south concession area.
  2. Fieldhouse scored 10 (out of 12, 12 =most important) on County priority list. List encompasses projects that the County could pay for. Most administrators think that only projects rated 12 or 11 will get done by County.
  3. Fieldhouse would provide locker room space for both HOME & AWAY teams, plus storage and office space
  4. Sports that would use: Football, Soccer, Lacrosse, Track
  5. Marvin Ridge and Porter Ridge are only 2 high schools in UC without fieldhouses
  6. Resurface Tennis Courts – 6 courts. Estimate of $15,000/court, $90,000
  7. Turf Stadium Field – Estimate of $675,000
  8. Could apply for $200,000 matching grant from the NFL, but need to have our funds lined up and committed and apply for grant.
  9. Turf Practice Fields (Fields 1 & 2)–Estimate of $800,000 - $1,000,000?
  10. Assume the NFL grant process would work for this too
  11. Scoreboards for Practice Fields – Estimate of $7,500 each ($15,000 for 2) plus installation
  12. Lights for Tennis Courts – no estimate as of yet
  13. Lights for Field behind Tennis Courts – Estimate of $100,000 or use portable lights
  14. Lights for Bus Lot Field – use portable lights
  15. Graco Field Lazer S100 – high pressure field stripper – Estimate of $1,925
  16. Player benches for practice fields – Estimate of $650/each
  17. Tent Frames for pop-up tents – need to be replaced
  18. Restrooms for Practice Fields – Estimate of $20,000 - $25,000. Currently have placed a Portable Potty by the fields.
  19. Fencing along front of Practice Fields/Parking Lot – County to fund

#4 – Turf Practice Fields - top pick from this meeting from parents/attendees. Dr. Jones from MRMS also said this was his priority. Rationale heard:

  • used by schools for PE (both MS and HS)
  • used by multiple sports, every season for both MS and HS
  • lack of field space at MR
  • fields are in bad shape and there is no down time to fix them properly
  • concerns of students getting injured from bumpy field condition
  • a parent did bring up concern about turf field potentially being linked with increase in rates of certain cancers (need research).
