Subject: FW: Special Triple Symmetry Time Event

Believe it or not, but 8.02 PM on February 20 this year will be an historic moment in time. It will not be marked by the chiming of any clocks or the ringing of bells, but at that precise time, on that specific date, something will happen which has not occurred for 1,001 years and will never happen again.

As the clock ticks over from 8.01 PM on Wednesday, February 20, time will, for sixty seconds only, read in perfect symmetry 2002, 2002, 2002, or to be more precise: 20:02, 20/02, 2002.

This historic event will never have the same poignancy as the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month which marks Armistice Day, but it is an event which has only ever happened once before, and is something which will never be repeated.

The last occasion that time read in such a symmetrical pattern was long before the days of the digital watch and the 24-hour clock -- at 10.01 am on January 10, 1001.

And because the clock only goes up to 23.59, it is something that will never happen again

Subject: FW: Fuji Anti-Semitism

Fuji Co. removed Israel from its complimentary world map that they give to their customers with the purchase. Yes, in Fuji stores abroad you receive the world map without Israel!!! According to Fuji, we just don't exist...

It is most likely done to entice Arab customers. I am sure, that map without Israel makes Arabs happy, very happy...

It is a very dangerous precedent - it looks like an indication that Arab calls for boycott of Israel start bearing fruits. Many Israelis today called for boycott of all Fuji products - film, cameras, batteries etc (see readers' responses in today's Yediot Aharonot).

Luckily - there are alternatives: film - Kodak, Agfa, cameras - Nikon, Olympus, Samsung, Canon etc.

I personally consider this Fuji's action the worst possible insult for our country and for me personally, and, until they apologize and re-print the map, I'm never buying anything made by Fuji and encourage you to do the same! Also, please spread the word around - I believe that Jewish buying power can do wonders. Even 3-5% reduction in Fuji's sales

will cause them to reconsider.

Also important to note - Subaru is Fuji. It somewhat narrows down selection of cars, but I still won't be able not to take it into consideration when the time comes.

Subject: FW: We should have listened to Ollie

I was at a UNC lecture the other day where they played a video of Oliver North during the Iran-Contra deals during the Reagan administration. I was only 14 back then but was surprised by this particular clip. There was Ollie in front of God and Country getting the third degree. But what he said stunned me. He was being drilled by some senator I didn't recognize who asked him:

'Did you not recently spend close to $60,000 for a home security system?'

Oliver replied, 'Yes I did sir.'

The senator continued, trying to get a laugh out of the audience, 'Isn't this just a little excessive?'

'No sir,' continued Oliver.

'No. And why not?'

'Because the life of my family and I were threatened.'

'Threatened? By who.'

'By a terrorist, sir.'

'Terrorist? What terrorist could possibly scare you that much?'

'His name is Osama bin Laden.'

At this point the senator tried to repeat the name, but couldn't pronounce it, which most people back then probably couldn't. A couple of people laughed at the attempt. Then the senator continued.

'Why are you so afraid of this man?'

'Because sir, he is the most evil person alive that I know of.'

'And what do you recommend we do about him?'

'If it were me I would recommend an assassin team be formed to eliminate him and his men from the face of the earth.'

The senator disagreed with this approach and that was all they showed of the clip.

You know, it's funny. I remember very vividly the Oliver North hearings, but did not recall the name of Osama bin Laden as the terrorist that North was threatened by. Has this slimeball been around that long? It's pretty evident, in hindsight that we should have listened to OLLIE!

It's scary when you think 15 years ago the government was aware of Osama bin Laden and his potential threat to the security of the world. I guess like all great tyrants they start small but if left untended spread like the virus they truly are.

Hi! We are fifty 6th grade students at Taylorsville Elementary School in Taylorsville, North Carolina the county seat of Alexander County. We are located in the foothills of the Brushy Mountains and are often called "Apple City". We have decided, after seeing this done at another school, to map an e-mail project. We are curious to see where in the world our e-mail will travel via the Internet, between the period of December 13, 2000 and April 1, 2000. This is not a pen-pal project, so we will not write you back (unless you request a verification). We would like your help. If you receive this e-mail, we ask that you:

1. E-mail us back at: and tell us your city/state/location so we can plot it on our map.

2. Forward this e-mail to everyone you know so that they can send it on to everyone they know (and so on) to help us reach even more people. (We don't mind receiving repeats, so sent it on to everyone. We're tracking the number of responses we receive as well, and will be making a graph in our computer lab classes using the numbers received by state.) We will post our results on our school's web site after our deadline so that you can see how we did. Our site can be accessed through With your help we can make this a very fun and exciting learning experience. PLEASE help us.

Thank you for any help you can give.

Subject: FW: Oil Imports: Paying for Terrorism?

Nothing is more frustrating to me than the feeling that every time I fill-up the tank, I am sending my money to people who are trying to kill me, my family, and my friends. It turns out that some oil companies import a lot of middle eastern oil and others do not import any. I thought it might be interesting for Americans to know which oil companies are the best to buy their gas from.

Here is the list:

Top 4 companies that import middle eastern oil (for the period 9/1/00 - 8/31/01). By the way, 86% of all middle eastern oil comes from Saudi Arabia and Iraq.

Shell 205,742,000 barrels of oil

Chevron/Texaco 144,332,000

Exxon/Mobil 130,082,000

Marathon 117,740,000

If you do the math at $30/barrel, these imports amount to about $18 billion. That's a lot of money.

Here are some large companies that do not import much Middle Eastern oil:

Citgo 0 barrels of oil

Sunoco 0

Conoco 0

Sinclair 0

Phillips 0

BP Amoco 62,231,000

All this information is available from the Department of Energy and can be easily documented. Refineries located in the U.S. are required to state where they get their oil and how much they are importing. They report on a monthly basis.

Keep this list in your car; share it with friends. Stop paying for terrorism!

Subject: FW: Don't ever go to Starbucks!!

My family owns an ambulance service in Brooklyn NY. Midwood Ambulance if anyone knows it. Anyway, my uncles were at "Ground Zero" during the attack to help the victims. They donated their time to help with this crisis as many New Yorkers did. A great deal of people were in shock from the devastation. As many of you know, shock victims are supposed to drink a lot of water. My uncle went to the Starbucks down the street to get bottles of water for the victims he was treating. Can you believe they actually charged him for it!! He paid the $130 for 3 cases of bottled water out of his own pocket. Now, I would think that in a crisis such as this, vendors in the area would be more than happy to lend a little help by donating water. Well, not Starbucks! As if this country hasn't given them enough money! Anyway, the point of this story wasn't to glorify my uncle's actions but to suggest a boycott on Starbucks. Now, I love Frappaccinos as much as anyone, but any company that would try to make a profit off of a crisis like this doesn't deserve the American public's hard earned money. Please forward this e-mail to any one you know and encourage them to do the same.

Thank you!

Subject: FW: SHARE THE SPIRIT!!

I wanted to ask you as a member of the online communty to join an Internet-wide campaign to share the spirit of the holiday season with needy children.

Over the past several months, the Internet has been unfairly criticized by the media and the U.S. governmant as a place characterized by inappropriate content and people of questionable morals who can do harm to our children. We know that this does not represent the true nature of the Net. Houghton Mifflin Company is therefore sponsoring an opportunity for Internetters around the world to counter these accusations and reach out to hospitalized children around the United States by taking part in The Polar Express Share the Spirit '95 Campaign (

_The Polar Express_ , a Caldecott Medal-winning children's book by Chris Van Allsburg, tells the story of a young boy who discovers that only those who have the faith to truly believe can hear the sound of Santa's sleigh bells. Houghton Mifflin Company is now asking everyone who still believes in the spirit of the season -- those who can still hear the sleigh bell ring -- to send an email message to explaining how they keep the holiday spirit alive.

For every twenty-five e-mail messages received, Houghton Mifflin Company will donate one copy of Mr. Van Allsburg's book to a children's hospital and contributors will be eligible to receive a free copy of The Polar Express CD-ROM Edition courtesy of Houghton Mifflin Interactive.

We've set a goal of goal of 25,000 messages by December 31, and have only a few weeks left to reach it. All that's required of you is a few minutes of your time, an e-mail message, and, like the young boy in _The Polar Express_, the willingness to truly believe.

Remember, send your email messages to . For more information, send email to .

Subject: FW: Save The Chimps

This petition is being passed around the Internet. This petition is for people who would like to see the Air Force place 143 chimpanzees in retirement sanctuaries. Note by Verena Winiwarter, Vienna: Molecular evidence suggests that humans are 98.4% identical to BOTH chimpanzees and bonobos. Hope this helps your decision!

The Air Force owns 143 chimpanzees who are members or descendants of the original colony of chimpanzees used in space exploration. The chimpanzees are currently leased to The Coulston Foundation, a biomedical research facility where many questionable chimpanzee deaths have occurred. The Coulston Foundation is currently under investigation by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) for violations of the Animal Welfare Act (AWA).

The Air Force is planning to relinquish ownership of the chimpanzees and is now considering bids from interested parties. Among the bidders are several groups who want to place the chimpanzees in retirement sanctuaries where they can live out the rest of their lives in peace. One such group is the Institute for Captive Chimpanzee Care which has Dr.Jane Goodall on its Board of Directors. The Coulston Foundation has also bid on the chimpanzees, despite their negligent management record.

We, the undersigned, ask the Air Force to give all 143 chimpanzees to groups who will place them in retirement, resocialise them, and provide them with enriched environments. Please add your name to this list and forward it to friends if you believe in what it stands for. This list will be forwarded to: the President of the United States, the Vice President of the United States, Senate and House leaders, and the Pentagon.

Subject: FW: Get rid of mosquitos!!

Pass this on to anyone who likes being out in the evening or is having a cook out.

Here is a good thing for the summer, for those who like to sit and enjoy the out of doors, but don't like those pesky mosquitoes. It was given at a gardening forum.

Put some water in a white dinner plate and add just a couple of drops of Lemon Fresh Joy dishwashing soap. Set the dish on a porch or patio. Not sure what attracts them, the lemon smell, the white color, or what, but mosquitoes flock to it, and drop dead, or fall into the water, or on the floor within about 10 ft.

Works just super!

Enjoy the mosquito free summer!

Subject: FW: You have to see this......

Even if you are not a cat "person" you have to LOOK at the picture!!!!!

Rodger Degagne, a former employee with AECL in Chalk River, may be embarking on a new career as Feline Breeder. Relaxing in his spacious home on the shores of the Ottawa River, Mr. Degagne recalls how 15 years ago he befriended two stray young cats on the old AECL research facility at Chalk River. The kittens had appeared in late summer and apparently had gotten under a security fence around the old labs abandoned since the late 50's. With the help of his tuna sandwich, Mr. Degagne was able to coax the kitties close enough so that he could pick them up. A self-described animal lover, he did not want to place the kittens in the local Humane Society. In this largely rural area, cats of all stripes and ages largely go unwanted and are humanely disposed of after a few days.
