Subject: CBUA 2011 Bulletin #7
------
CBUA Umpires,
This is a mass email.
Thank you to those of you who have responded about not receiving one or more of the following: NCAA Rule Book, CCA Manual, Robic Timer. The NCAA is tracking rule book and manual deliveries and Honigs is tracking timer deliveries. I'll likely follow upafter the Chicago meetings to ensure everyone has received the three items.
The tentative Chicago NCAA and CBUA agenda that I sent in Bulletin #4 is accurate with one change--Nick Zibelli will not be in Chicago, so the meeting that was tentatively scheduled for 6:30 a.m. - 8:00 a.m. on Saturday for A-10 and Big East umpires who work for Nick has been cancelled. The balance of the agenda remains the same.
If you need another look at the agenda, it is printed in CBUA Bulletin #4. You can link easily to this bulletin and other CBUA information on our CBUA Central Hub web site.
Also, since I know several of you will experience unexpected conflicts in the next week or so (i.e. grandmother died for the fourth time, son has his First Holy Communion for the second time on Saturday, just realized it was the 40th anniversary of my first umpire assignment and my local association is having a surprise party in my honor Sunday morning, etc. etc. etc.), you do not need to notify me that you won't be able to make it to Chicago. The meetings will go on without you and, yes, the NCAA does take attendance and shares the list with all coordinators.
NOTE TO CBUA COORDINATORS/ASSIGNORS: An important session late Saturday afternoon is ourassignor-umpire breakout meeting. I generally split the room into sections based on geography. We allow our umpires to attend any/all breakouts as time permits. We ask each of our assignors to spend a few minutes reviewing what they are looking for in prospectiveumpires and a little bit about how they approach assigning, what their needs are, etc. Basically, this sessionacknowledges that most umpires are interested in "networking" with assignors and learning more about what assignors are looking for in umpire candidates. Getting assignments is the one desire most all umpires have in common--this breakout session is simply to acknowledge this desire and do what we can to help deserving umpires get connected with assignors. This breakout session is generallyloud and chaoticas umpires move around to meet assignors, etc. Thank you in advance for doing this service.
Assignors that I expect/hope will participate in this session are: Chuck Adya, Chuck Barnett, Jon Bible, Deron Brown, Bret Bruington, Mickey Contreras, Chris Coskey, Rick Denny, Jay DeSantis, Bruce Doane, Larry Donovan, Rick Hall, Bob Homolka, Jim Jackson, Danny Jimenez, John Johnston, Gary Kalkopf, Don King, Dave Madsen, Jim Mecha, Steve Partington,Greg Patoray, Mike Rust, Jim Schaly, Mike Scime, Doyle Sooter, Don Umland, Shawn Vellek, Ron Whiting, David Wiley. IF I'VE MISSED ANY ASSIGNOR(S), PLEASE EMAIL ME SO I CAN ADD YOU TO THE LIST FOR THE MEETING.
ASSIGNORS:We will have an OPTIONAL meeting for assignors on Friday evening from 8:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. This meeting is not required but is being offered for any/all assignors who may have questions for me, questions about using Arbiter, questions about Saturday's breakout session, etc. etc. We will gatherjust inside the frontdoor of the Hyatt Regency (where the taxis, etc. let guests out) at 8:00 p.m. and proceed together to a quiet lobby area for our meeting. Please be prompt if you want to participate in this meeting.
The following information is for Big 12 Conference umpires . . . our lunch meeting will be in the Atlanta Room.
