SUBJECT: SEPTEMBER PRINCIPAL LETTER

I would like to thank all parents for attending our inaugural PTO meeting last night. Please make plans to attend our next meeting on October 14th at 5:00pm in the Media Center. Topics of last night’s meeting included WV Legislative Code, WVDE and MCS Policy, MVS Strategic Plan, MVS Procedures and Logistics, etc. It is my hope that attendance will increase to allow for the improved collaboration within the Parent stakeholder element. A reminder that PTO meetings will be held on the second Tuesday of each month and Athletic Booster Club meetings will occur on the 3rd Tuesday of each month. Plans for the October PTO meeting include topics on Common Core Curriculum, Smarter Balanced Assessment, Formative Assessments, Parent suggestions on MVS procedures and logistics, Student Council, Extra-Curricular and Club activities, etc.

With the start of a great school year, I would like to take this opportunity to review and address current issues within our school that are directly affecting the safety of our students. Please be aware that no vehicle traffic is permitted in the front parking lanes of the school to pick-up or drop-off students regardless of time within the school day. These lanes are reserved for bus traffic and minimal faculty/staff parking. All parents are to utilize the carpool lane designated in the back parking area. High school parents should pick-up/drop-off students in the lower church parking lot. I will be contacting the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office to request assistance in monitoring and maintaining a safe traffic pattern for our students.

Please review the initial parent letter and student handbook in reference to visiting classrooms, checking in/out students, and other logical guidelines within our school. Also, please ensure your contact information is up-to-date; we rely on this information to maintain communication in the event of an emergency. To improve communication, I will be pursing abilities within Synrovoice to allow for phone messages of upcoming events direct to your phone, updating our school website, and would request your review of our monthly calendar to stay up-to-date on the great things happening at our school. Also, please sign-up for Remind to receive text messages of important events at our school.

Students, Parents, Teachers, and Community – we are all responsible for the safety, education, and success of our youth. We live in a great community with a great school, and I hope we continue to promote the foundational hopes and beliefs that will lead our students toward everlasting success.

Monroe County Schools will grant equal opportunities to all persons, regardless of age, race, sex, or national origin, and no discrimination based upon these factors will be made in the salary, promotion, demotion, transfer or termination of any employee.
