OLD BUSINESS / DISCUSSIONS/COMMENTS / OUTCOME/FOLLOW UP1. Approval of Minutes
2. Student Success Strategies Chart Revision
3. Robert Melendez- Early Alert Information
4. On Course In-Service /
- Minutes from the 2/12/07 meeting were approved with a change of “strategy” to “strategies” Under New Business, Early Decision Assessment Report.
- Suggestion to change IS “Intrusive Support” to “Intervention Support” or “Retention Strategies”. Delete DSPS Mid-Term Progress Report and possibly add Financial Aid Alert. Change “Link” Courses under LC to “Linked” Courses. Revised chart attached.
- Discussion on Early Alert process and timing of distribution of material to students and faculty. Committee will work on a more effective process in the future once Datatel is in place. Recommended to discontinue the current Early Alert letter system since its effectiveness as an intervention is questionable. Unsure of the process used byAthletics.
- On-Coarse Flex activity will be August 20 and 21, 2007. Diana asked for volunteers to help. Positive comments on this activity from Mt.SAC and Cerritos colleges. This will be an on-going agenda item.
John to talk to Ruth regarding Early Alert reporting to state and invite her to the next meeting.
Diana will ask Ian Woodhead to attend next meeting to discuss their Early Alert process.
NEW BUSINESS
1. Kate Kosuth – Learning Communities
2. Textbook Costs /
- Learning communities are linked classes usually taught back to back, not team taught(see attached list). Marketing Early Decision student population is important. Dropping classes may affect Financial Aid and other services. Concern that student will want to drop just one of the classes rather than both. Linda Miskovic should be contacted to see what the ramifications are if just one class is dropped and a possible flag on the registration screen. Research shows that student retention is 10%-15% higher along with higher transfer rates.
- Discussion regarding the increasing cost of textbooks and the burden on students which is also a concern of the District.
