STUDENT SERVICES SPECIALIST- JOB #2406

The Student Services Specialist position is a grant-funded full-time professional position. The Student Services Specialist will promote the purpose of the Educational Opportunity Center, act as a spokesperson for the program, recruit eligible participants, implement information on academic and financial opportunities for participants, assess and place program participants into postsecondary education; assist participants with completing applications for financial aid and admissions; counsel and motivate participants; and conduct program presentations and workshops. The Student Services Specialist will create individual enrollment action plans, and make appropriate campus and community referrals. This position requires availability to work flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends, throughout the district. This position reports to the Director, Educational Opportunity Center. This is a grant funded position.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Graduation from an accredited institution with a bachelor’s degree in education, social work, or related field, and two years’ experience in career counseling, recruitment services, academic advising, student services to individuals, or in public school teaching are required. Successful results of a criminal background check are required.

Pursuant to College policy, it is an employment eligibility requirement for an applicant to meet the requirements of § 435.04(2), Florida Statutes, related to background investigations. Any person failing to meet the requirements of the statute will be deemed not qualified to hold employment in this position. A Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) approved background check will be conducted on every successful candidate as a condition of employment, and any person who fails to disclose any adverse information contained in the background investigation at the time of submitting the employment application will be disqualified from employment.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Prefer graduation from an accredited institution with a master’s degree in counseling, psychology, social work, education, or related field; two years’ experience delivering services to populations having characteristics and circumstances similar to those of the target population (low income, first generation in college students).

SALARY RANGE: $25,000.00 - $29,000.00 (Depending on the qualifications, the salary is negotiable. However, the college does not generally hire at the top of the range.)
